EDMONTON - The Honda Indy Edmonton is extremely pleased to announce that it has entered into promotional relationships with Alex Tagliani and the FAZZT Race Team, and with Paul Tracy and the KV Racing Technology Team for several upcoming races in the 2010 IZOD IndyCar Series.

The “Team Oh Canada” promotion includes prominent Honda Indy Edmonton logo placement on Alex Tagliani’s #77 FAZZT team car, and on Paul Tracy’s #15 GEICO KVRT Honda/Dallara/Firestone entry at the Indianapolis 500, which takes place on Sunday, May 30th.

In addition to the Indy 500, Alex Tagliani’s relationship includes distinct Honda Indy Edmonton logo placement on his team’s car for the IZOD IndyCar Series’ races in Fort Worth, Texas, Watkins Glen, New York, Toronto and Edmonton.

Along with the logo branding of Paul’s and Alex’s cars, the Honda Indy Edmonton will carry out promotional opportunities with “Team Oh Canada” in other markets, including event promotions at the Indy 500, all of which will be designed to drive tourism and generate ticket sales.

“Northlands and the Honda Indy Edmonton are absolutely delighted to partner with Canada’s two best IndyCar Series’ drivers,” said Northlands President Ken Knowles. “Our promotional support for Alex and Paul provides us with an incredible opportunity to place our event, and the City of Edmonton, in the international spotlight while reaching a huge international audience.

“And, it provides Canadian race fans from coast to coast with the opportunity to cheer on Team Oh Canada, as both Paul and Alex compete for the checkered flag at upcoming IndyCar Series races,” Knowles emphasized.

The partnership is a natural fit for the FAZZT Race Team, which is the only full season entry in the IZOD IndyCar Series with a Canadian driver. Tagliani, a native of Lachenaie, Quebec, recently attended a media day in Edmonton in support of this summer’s race and was enthused about Team Oh Canada and the support from Honda Indy Edmonton.

“The Honda Indy Edmonton is a great event and we always have such a huge amount of support from the fans and the city,” said Tagliani. “I feel honoured to be carrying the Honda Indy Edmonton decals and to be representing Team Oh Canada, it makes me proud to be a Canadian.”

“It’s exciting to have the Honda Indy Edmonton logo on my GEICO – KV Racing Technology Honda car for the world’s biggest auto race, the Indianapolis 500,” said Tracy, the 2003 ChampCar World Series champion. “The Honda Indy Edmonton event is one of the biggest auto races in all of Canada. Being Canadian, I’m proud to have the event as a sponsor for my entry at Indy. I’ve enjoyed competing at Edmonton over the years. The fans are very enthusiastic and treat me very well. Thank you very much.”

The promotional relationship between the Honda Indy Edmonton and the two race teams was made possible with the support of the Government of Canada’s Marquee Tourism Events Program (MTEP). The MTEP program funds programs that will contribute to the long-term growth and viability of Canada’s visitor economy by attracting more tourists from within and outside Canada. This funding support from the Government of Canada for the Honda Indy Edmonton will assist in building a world-class event that will continue to profile Edmonton and Canada to the world, while contributing significant economic impact to the city.
