Rain Frustrates Taku`s Rookie Orientation

An intermittently wet day at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway ensured that Takuma Sato's attempts to complete the mandatory rookie orientation programme that will ensure of his Indianapolis 500 debut.

 

The two-hour veteran practice that preceded the time set aside for newcomers to the famous circuit was shortened by a rain shower, and similar conditions truncated Sato's efforts to work through the four-phase programme. The Japanese ace completed 20 laps with a best speed of 210.997mph as he completed the first two phases before the return of the rain shortened his test and forced him to finish his programme on Sunday.

 

“It was good to learn the track and get a feel for it and the car, as the track here at Indianapolis has very different characteristics," Taku admitted, "Unfortunately, we had to stop rookie orientation due to the rain. That was a shame, but hopefully we can finish the rest of the rookie orientation on Sunday.”
