Repalcing Radiator Fan?

hi,

 

i'm getting my elise s1 this evening that i'm buying off a friend.

 

its just being serviced today and they phoned him to say that the coolant fan had seized, and that they wanted £450 to replace it!

 

i found a local specialist who said he could get a second hand fan for me. he said he could fit it for between £200 and £300.

 

the thing i am wondering is - how hard is it to get the front clam-shell and radiator off to get to the fan? i'm not bad mechanically, but haven't looked at it yet.

 

any advice?

Surely your friend should be getting this fixed before he sells the car to you!

 

Shouldnt think it's a hard job - just time consuming.

he asked me if i'd go halves on it, fair enough i suppose.

 

i think i'll tell him to give me a hand with it on saturday instead!

There should be a procedure somewhere on the internet for clam removal! Sorry I can't be more helpfull!

If your going to do this yourself don't mess about with a second hand fan,get a new one.I'm surprised the fan has seized very rare! Have they checked the temp senders etc...
