Steve G Posted October 12, 2003 Posted October 12, 2003 Looking for a few suggestions before I give the dealer a call... So far this year I'm on my fourth blue temperature sender for the Stack. All have been fitted by the dealer and all seem fine for about a month or so. Then with no warning whatsoever they turn into a bit of a random number generator! The current one was fitted about three to four weeks ago whilst the car was in for a service and has just started showing signs of playing up. I can predict (based on the way that the others have gone) that within a few weeks the gauge will not register anything above around 50 degrees. At which point a new one will be fitted under warrenty and the cycle will probably begin again... The problem must be electrical because of the rate at which the temperature display changes and the high degree of fluctuation between the readings. There is no physical way the engine temperature could be changing that much so quickly. Is there anything that can be affecting the temp sender or anything that is know to cause it to malfunction? Any other ideas....? Cheers, Steve.
Mark H Posted October 12, 2003 Posted October 12, 2003 What happens to the temperature when you switch the lights on off? use the horn etc? It could be a grounding problem.
Steve G Posted October 12, 2003 Author Posted October 12, 2003 Had all the earths done previously so don't think its that - although the temperature does fluctuate a couple of degrees when I turn on the lights - but it did this when the sensor was working correctly as well.
Scott_Mac Posted October 12, 2003 Posted October 12, 2003 Am having a v.similar problem... I had the radiator replaced and the temp sender on engine a week ago and recently the temp has started fluctuating a lot, i dropped the car off at NW yesterday and Ian reckons its the grounding strip is badly corroded and any load that is placed on it is causing problems.. certainly sounds very familiar I have to say. Being replaced next week.... so we'll see.
Mark H Posted October 12, 2003 Posted October 12, 2003 Only other thing I have heard of is the contacts getting corroded.
Steve G Posted October 15, 2003 Author Posted October 15, 2003 I've found the solution to all your Lotus problems.... Simply make threatening remarks about taking it to the dealers, and it behaves perfectly. Since yesterday, the problem seems to have gone away. Will keep an eye on it for a while before mentioning it to NW. Thanks for all the advice... Steve.
