Oh - explaination is... the car I'm looking underneath had a coolant leak, which had temporarily stopped, so I was given the important job of spotting any drips (coolant that is, before you say it).

 

Unfortunately, after a while, there was a stream of coolant... and eventually diagnosed that the pipe in the chassis was full of holes - so car went home on an AA lorry
