s1_austen Posted May 24, 2007 Posted May 24, 2007 I had those in my K when i bought it, it did seem to have a good deal more top end compared to the standard cam cars i went in. Saying that it only stuck 126 on the rollers, but i blame that on slippage
AnthT Posted May 24, 2007 Posted May 24, 2007 with these cams, 4-2-1, DCP and an ITG I got 148bhp at Aldon, good tourque too, 120lb/ft IIRC
winston Posted May 24, 2007 Posted May 24, 2007 At Dave Andrews yesterday I learnt how important cam timing is. He showed me what we were aiming for, how my cams were presently set up and, after work, how we had achieved our aim, (sounds like a John Cleese management tutorial). Having completed the tune up the car feels much better. My point is get your cams tuned and watch the tuning to assure yourself something has been done. You should get 15bhp (ish) from well tuned bp270s. Winston.
sootysteve Posted May 24, 2007 Author Posted May 24, 2007 i have no idea what cams do, nor how they work, so i dont knw what/how they improve a cars performance!
gerags Posted May 24, 2007 Posted May 24, 2007 i have no idea what cams do, nor how they work, so i dont knw what/how they improve a cars performance! Cams lift (or open) the valves in the engine (if I have my terminology right) The Rover engine has hydraulic cams, some others have push rods. The cam shaft pushes the cams to open the valves. Timing, or changing, the cams will make subtle changes to when the valves open and close - optimising the engine power and efficiency. HTH.
malbon Posted May 24, 2007 Posted May 24, 2007 good tourque too, 120lb/ft IIRC Good job AshGti16v's mates arent reading this forum !
Rus Posted May 24, 2007 Posted May 24, 2007 D you live in Leicester Steve? I have a hurricaine, 4-2-1, Raceline back box and piper cams fitted. Thats with a standard head without any porting, i'll take you for a spin in my car so you can see what the performance is like if you're anywhere near me. The cams did make a noticable difference to how the engine performed through the revs, which is probably more noticable than the increase in power that they gave. Mine are the piper 633's i think, the 270's are the next step up from mine (I THINK!) Rus
sootysteve Posted May 24, 2007 Author Posted May 24, 2007 Rus thankyou for the offer mate, but im no where nr leicester. im in w.mids mate. its like everything, one person says something is the business, then someone else says it aint, just throws me into a whole world of confussion! i dont know what the f&*^ to do!! sports cat? or silenced CRP? cams? or sports cat? why is it all so confusing!? the only thing im certain on is S2 bilsteins! .....me thinks,
