EBD were thought for a long time to the best you could get for the Elise - may still be. Not cheap.

Notable for long primaries for the best possible torque outputs. They are "solid" i.e. have no flexi section, so necessitate the use of an engine steady bar (adjustable bottom engine mount) to restrict engine rocking on/off power. Too much rocking can fatigue and ultimately break a solid manifold if the engine isn't properly restrained. Elise parts sell an engine steady bar.

In fact, Elise Parts used to sell the EBD, but now have an alternative badged as their own. There was a little awkwardness about the changeover: suggestion of quality issues but most likely down to money...

If you want the best outputs, get EBD or Eliseparts solid manifold. Or if you need better clearance around an oil cooler, try the Piper solid (Steve Butts among others can supply).

If you want to retain a flexi section, and thus avoid the need for an engine steady, get the Piper flexi or Janspeed small bore.

graeme, thanks for the advice, ive looked into it, and whilst performance wise i understand the eliseparts style fixed version is better, im lead to believe that the flexi ones are easier to fit and better for the engine, as the are like the name says, flexible.

i was therefore thinking about the janspeed smallbore as it has good feedback on here, that said i have the eliseparts silencer and its a beautifully crafted piece of engineering, and very very well made, which obviously their 4-2-1 wud be too!!!!!!!

I'm considering a 4-2-1 at the moment, currently the car is at 95-96db, will it likely push the noise levels over 100db?

p.s miles i believe it does make the car grunt a little louder, (which is abit of a concern for me, as my ears already suffer!)

Mines 99dB Miles... and has a very loud exhaust as you know...

I believe Wuddie has a full CRP on his, whereas i use a Silenced one. The main difference is actually in note pitch, i.e. it's a lot deeper, not necessarily hugely louder.

Can't speak for the other manifolds, but the Janspeed one absolutely rocks on my car, i've no other direct experience, but the results from the Aldon RR show:

I've just bought a Janspeed from PTP. They have them in stock and will be fitting it too.

I've opted for the "heat wrap" which they'll also do. Not for me, the manifold! Supposed to keep engine bay temps down, and also noise.

I cant compare mine to the janspeed as I've never seen/heard one but it sounds lovely and at the time I was buying it was the cheapest one around hence the reason I recommend it! Total arse to fit though - even with the cylinder head off! :)

I changed the CRP for a sports cat a while ago, I'm getting on average readings of 96db at trackdays, just worried that it might go over the 100db restrictions at some tracks. Very tempted to take the gamble though for the performance gains
