EdLeake Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 Hey guys. Can anyone tell me how much weight the A/C adds to the Exige S? Also is the sport pack worthwhile, it seems a lot of money for a pair of seats and harness rail, but I might want it seeing as I'll be doing track days.
kimbo Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 I had the touring pack and air-con (softie and no track days) but I think air-con is a MUST. Cabin gets hot and dealer told me that in s/h market he has great deal of difficulty shifting non air-con cars. Like most extras a/c adds little or no value on resale but without it they just don't shift so I'm afraid whatever the weight you need to specify. I had bar and harness belts in my 111s (Willans 3" - great) and would have liked in Exige - may get around to it but an expensive extra on Exige as roof has to come off to get seats out, then cut rear panel for bar, install bar (£100 + from somewhere like EliseParts) then the cost of your 2 belts - best to get it as part of the Touring Pack if you are going this route plus if tracking then adjustable Ohlins a good bet. I think there are still a few new over-speced ExigeS's around (dealers took whatever they were given - due to demand in the early days) and I looked at one (white) with Super Touring Pack + + which dealer was having trouble to shift (BIG discounts) due to fact it was working out at £41k +. The list price jumps when you add a/c, metallic (red or brg standard) and one of the packs. A £33k car becomes £38k then add on exhaust etc etc and you are firmly in Boxter territory without the residuals but the difference between a Porche and a porcupine - the pricks are on the outside of a porcupine ~ only joking kimbo
jez_s Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 A/C I think weighs about 45Kg and yes is a must (more so for resale than cooling!) The sports pack gives you the traction control, harness bar and leather/alcantara sports seats. whilst you can get traction control as a stand alone item for the extra 1100 quid the sports pack seems to me a better deal than the touring pack. chris_h Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 I love the performance pack seats and harness on mine, never use the standard belt. AC is a must for me, it does tell you somewere on the brochure the weight of it.
EdLeake Posted September 21, 2006 Author Posted September 21, 2006 What about a good old fasioned LSD, any had a factory fitted diff? 45kg seems a lot for A/C, I'll check the brochure on Sunday when I go for a test drive.
kimbo Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 Sorry to repeat myself but whether 4.5/45/450 kg you need a/c.... believe me (and others) .kimbo
EdLeake Posted September 21, 2006 Author Posted September 21, 2006 I WANT A/C also, wairing a suit isn't nice in the summer. I will get A/C regardless, its just nice to know how much weight its adding. I'm beginning to understand why the press slate Lotus prices, everything is optional! lol The choice of just 2 basic paint colours is a case in point, easy money making scheme there. A £34k car turns into a 40k just like magic!
chris_h Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 A/C weighs 15 kg's just found it on my old info pack in the filling cabinet
kimbo Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 Ed ... I tend to be a different person to most people on this site insofaras I have a couple of other 'performance' cars as well plus my age dictates I get a better deal out of insurers. Lotus vairiates are not cheap ... you buy them for the thrill ... you cannot match the everyday ambience of a Honda to an Elise/Exige ... it is like comparing Kate Moss to Twiggy (more about this later) .... drive the 'animal' ... do you enjoy? ... if it hits you between the legs buy ... if it hits you somewhere else then consider .... if it doesnn't HIT you then stay with your Honda. imbo
EdLeake Posted September 21, 2006 Author Posted September 21, 2006 Cheers Chris, 15kg isn't much to worry about and be half clawed back with a performance exhaust. Kimbo - I'm not going to compare the Exige to a 4 door sports saloon, I'm not that naieve. My point was the basic colour set comprises of just 2. Only 2 stock colours to choose from and all the others cost extra, I personally think that's a little on the cheeky side - even so I'll be opting for white (or possibly black).
jez_s Posted September 21, 2006 Posted September 21, 2006 15Kgs sounds right....45Kgs i shall take myself away and give myself a good talking to!!
