I thought I would post this in case it helps anyone else.
So last year I fitted a quickshift stick on my s2 K series elise. Well, I say I fitted it but everyone that knows me knows that really means Gav, who has looked after my car for the last 11 years and 60,000 miles (where did that time go?!?) fitted it. That's Gav at Unit 4 Vehicle Services, Burton by the way.
I liked the shorter throw but, perhaps inevitably because of the reduced leverage, it required quite a bit more force to move the lever, especially initially, when changing gear - which I didn't like.
Mods are usually a bloody compromise aren't they?
Anyway, I had read good things about the Redline MT90 gear oil, including that it improves shift quality and feel, so I thought I would give it a try. I reasoned the gearbox has 122,000 miles on it so some top-spec fresh oil wouldn't go amiss anyway so I bought some from Car Service Packs (Graeme Laslett the proprietor races an elise and I buy all my oils from him). Gav put it in for me as part of my annual service.
And the verdict?
You can actually tell a difference. It's not huge but it is definitely there. And it is definitely an improvement worth having.
The oil isn't cheap - I think it's about £60 now for enough to fill the Rover box but it's worth it.
Overall I'm chuffed!
Thanks Gav and thanks Graeme.
