  1. Society fundraiser held at the LOTUS ORIGINALS Regent Street store in London. Group Lotus Plc demonstrated its support of the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund UK (NMCF UK) last night at a charitable event held at the Lotus Originals flagship store in London’s Regent Street. The event, attended by famous supporters of the charity saw Lotus making a financial donation from the income of purchases made on the evening to the charity. Kathi Scott, Executive Director, NMCF UK said “A huge thank you to Lotus for the incredible support and for the funds donated this evening. The Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund UK is proud of the positive changes that have been made to the lives of hundreds of thousands of children in the past 18 years through its important work. It is for this reason we are proud to be working with Lotus Cars, an inspirational British brand whose values of passion, individuality and gritty determination we share at NMCF UK. We are so grateful to everyone at Lotus Cars that has made this evening possible.” The fund which was set up in 1994 by Nelson Mandela himself is now well established in South and Southern Africa, working with communities to help them to develop not only economic strength, but the spirit of caring that enables them to take care of the most vulnerable children among them. Their latest project is to build a dedicated children’s hospital in Johannesburg. It will be called The Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital, and has been described by Mr Mandela as “a vital necessity which cannot be delayed”.
  2. Lotus cars took the wraps off their new Exige S sports car as they opened a flagship store in the heart of London’s West End. The new car is the centerpiece of a state-of-the-art store, which is spread over 4,800 sq. feet of floor space in a landmark building that once housed the famous Café Royal, just a short distance from Piccadilly Circus. The shop opening and sports car unveiling mark a new chapter for both Lotus and its parent company PROTON after being taken over by Malaysian conglomerate DRB-HICOM earlier this year. DRB-HICOM with its vast experience and presence in the entire automotive industry value chain, coupled with long-standing collaborations with other global automotive giants reiterated their commitment to drive this iconic British brand to greater success. Group Managing Director of DRB-HICOM and Executive Chairman of PROTON Dato’ Sri Haji Mohd Khamil Jamil said: “We can derive many synergies between DRB-HICOM, PROTON and Lotus; and we reaffirm our full and long-term commitment to raise Lotus to the next level of success. With a future of increased productivity and cooperation ahead, Lotus is destined to join the ranks of the great luxury performance brands of the world.” The 170mph high-performance Exige S with a supercharged V6 engine caused a sensation when it was announced at the Frankfurt motor show last year. The first cars will begin rolling off the production line at the company’s HQ at Hethel, Norfolk, later this month. Lotus Chief Operating Officer Aslam Farikullah said: “The car represents the very best of Lotus. Its aerodynamic appearance is race-track inspired, as is the interior. Every detail from the racing twin-piston front caliper brakes, to the glossy black wheels and lightweight aluminum bonded structure has the Lotus mark of excellence about it.” The board of DRB-HICOM met with British Trade Secretary Dr Vince Cable on Wednesday, shortly before the store was officially opened by Malaysian High Commissioner to the UK, Dato’ Sri Zakaria Sulong. The store focuses on providing clothing, memorabilia and luxury goods aimed at three generations of Lotus followers. There are four collections available: Lotus Originals which targets Lotus owners and its new young audience. It features a relaxed range of clothing aimed at the 25 to 45-year-old age group. The Lotus Heritage collection is inspired by the glorious racing days of the Sixties and Seventies. It has a retro look and it aimed at the top end of the market. Whilst the Performance collection reflects the engineering soul of the brand and its high-performance technology; the range includes polo shirts, T-shirts and outdoors wears. Lotus F1 wear is fast, fun and exciting with a range of clothing and racing accessories. The store also stocks items like scale model cars for collectors and bespoke bicycles designed by Lotus engineers. Opening the store, Mr Sulong highlighted the Lotus brand’s history. “Lotus is such an iconic brand, not just in the UK but internationally as well,” he said. “It represents a heritage that has impacted the world’s automotive industry and a brand that holds so much more potential and relevance in the automotive industry and motorsports today. “I am indeed honored to be part of this special occasion.”
  3. New Lotus owners DRB-HICOM welcomed Business Secretary Vince Cable to the Lotus Originals flagship store on Regent Street today. Present during the visit was His Excellency Dato' Sri Zakaria Sulong, Malaysia High Commissioner to the United Kingdom. The DRB-HICOM delegation led by DRB-HICOM Chairman Dato’ Syed Mohamad Syed Murtaza and DRB-HICOM Berhad's Group Managing Director and Executive Chairman of Proton Holdings Berhad, Dato Sri Hj Mohd Khamil Jamil met with the Business Secretary before showing him around the new flagship store in London. The Regent Street store opening marked the end of a three day visit by DRB-HICOM to Group Lotus which began with two days at the Hethel based headquarters. During the visit, the delegation from DRB-HICOM was given a thorough tour of the facilities including the production line, design studio and engineering facilities before putting current Lotus products through their paces out on the test track with a ride and drive experience. The feedback from Lotus’ new owners was very positive and senior staff at Hethel were reassured regarding DRB-HICOM’s support for Group Lotus going forward. Dato’ Sri Hj Mohd Khamil Jamil, Group Managing Director DRB-HICOM & Executive Chairman PROTON said: “Group Lotus has some of the most technically gifted and talented members of the automotive industry and we are determined that they will be given the opportunity to flourish under the new management. DRB-HICOM has invested new funds and it is our job to make sure that investment is used in a way that can drive the company forward. “We are working on a number of new developments and are confident of the company’s bright future as we continue to leverage on our engineering excellence and innovation culture. Meeting with Dr Cable and hearing about his continued support for this great British brand was very heartening.” Business Secretary Vince Cable said: “I'm pleased to have been invited to meet with DRB-HICOM on what is a milestone day for Lotus. Lotus is an important part of the UK’s automotive sector, and I particularly welcome DRB-HICOM’S continued commitment to the future of Lotus in Norfolk."
  4. The boards that have recently been covering number 52 Regent Street in the heart of London’s Piccadilly have been removed to unveil a new flagship store and Lotus takes pride of place to showcase its iconic brand in a new and accessible way. LOTUS ORIGINALS arrives in the capital at a massively exciting time for the UK and everything British. As the nation is in full-patriotic-swing during the year of both the Olympics and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, it is the perfect time for Lotus to demonstrate how it’s legendary British brand, one steeped in heritage and international reverence, deserves its place in the buzzing 2012 summer calendar. Situated in London’s Piccadilly, the Grade II listed 4,800 sq ft space, which was previously the ‘Café Royal’, will be host to a diverse collection of luxury apparel, luggage, gifts, toys, and limited edition collectables - this is a store for the fashion conscious and style orientated, not purely a shrine for Lotus fans. Nevertheless, those with a passion for F1 will be able to lose themselves in the emporium, whilst those that are more concerned with quality fashion will be delighted with the beautiful lines that are perhaps more affordable than the dream sportscar! The development of the LOTUS ORIGINALS retail concept has been rapid. Since its launch in September 2010 the offering has gone from online sales only via www.lotusoriginals.com to small shops in Monaco and China carrying small lines of key pieces to now a flagship store in the heart of London! The London store is the next step in a fully integrated, international approach for non-car Lotus products. The concept of the store embodies style and heritage in a ‘Best of British’ way that provides enthusiasts and fashionistas with a new Lotus experience.
  5. At this weekend’s Monaco Grand Prix, the first Lotus Originals franchise store has opened near the Principality’s famous Monte Carlo Casino Square. Lotus Originals is the fashion arm of the legendary sports car and racing marque, and the collection is inspired by the British sense of style, heritage, innovation and rebellious spirit that goes into every on-road Lotus design. Lotus is hailed for its engineering and thirst for competition. It is also known for style. Heroes of reality and fiction, from Jim Clark to James Bond, have outgunned their rivals from behind the wheel of a Lotus, and they looked good doing it. Partner Forza Rossa Holding, official Lotus cars dealer since 2011, recognise this and joins the Lotus family with the opening of the Monte Carlo store which carries the brand new Lotus Originals retail concept. It’s fitting that this first franchise store be in Monaco, the scene of the first grand prix victory for a Lotus, in 1960 at the hands of Stirling Moss. His Serene Highness Prince Albert II, Monaco’s Mayor Georges Marsan and State Minister Michel Roger were joined by Lotus F1 Team’s Gerard Lopez, Eric Boullier and Romain Grosjean, Lotus Sales and Marketing Director Maurizio Parlato and Forza Rossa Holding’s President Ion Bazac at the opening of the store. Here you will find apparel, accessories, gifts, toys, bikes and collectables that will thrill Lotus fans, and bring others into our Lotus world. Speaking of which, we took the opportunity in Monaco to launch a special car designed for the next generation of Lotus drivers: a slightly smaller-than-usual Lotus Elan, one of Lotus’ most-beloved classics which this year celebrates its 50th anniversary. What’s more, the car is eligible for racing. The Little Big Le Mans, which forms part of the Le Mans Classic race weekend, is designed for lucky young drivers aged 6-14, and this Elan is eligible for this event. Also, 20 years after we helped win gold in Barcelona in 1992 with the revolutionary Lotus Type 108 Superbike, we are showing for the first time, a stunning hand made carbon fibre black and gold bespoke bicycle from our new collaboration with Condor Cycles Ltd. Lotus Originals can also be found at the company’s Hethel HQ and at Norwich City Football Club’s stadium, and we’re also opening our flagship store in the heart of London in six weeks time: 4,800 sq ft of retail space on Regents Street. It will be, as it is here in Monaco, an iconic location for an iconic brand. Maurizio Parlato, Director of Sales & Marketing, Group Lotus: “It is our mission to grow the Lotus brand internationally, to become more of a global player, and to do that we need to produce great cars, but we also want Lotus to be a lifestyle brand of its own. Our founder, Colin Chapman, understood this. He was a trendsetter in every way. He also recognised the marketing potential of motorsport better than anyone else at that time, and had an eye for detail that pervaded every aspect of his company’s presentation. Therefore, I believe he would be very excited to see what we’re doing here today – opening this first Lotus Originals franchise.” Ion Bazac, Forza Rossa Holding President: “It is a big honour and pleasure for us to inaugurate the first Lotus Originals franchise store in such a prestigious and exclusive place like Monte Carlo, famous worldwide for its fabulous Grand Prix. With the new Lotus originals collections and accessories you will find a unique link between the past, the present and the future of the Lotus brand and its very passionate history and heroes. Lotus Originals Monte Carlo is more than a store, it is a place of meeting and dialogue between fans and their favorite brand, so that the legend, the winning heritage and dreams of Colin Chapman be more alive than ever.”
