Mark H Posted January 2, 2004 Posted January 2, 2004 Pistonheads Elisetalk GGLotus Sands Museum http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/attachmen...achmentid=24137 http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/attachmen...achmentid=24136 http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/attachmen...achmentid=24135 http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/attachmen...achmentid=24134 Quality of the cabin inside looks good, hate the reflectors but that cant be helped due to US law. The exhaust also looks a bit weird where it is, prefered the S2's design. Wonder how long til we see the Toyota engine in the S2's here.
Kris H Posted January 2, 2004 Posted January 2, 2004 I agree with you Mark - I think the exhaust makes the back end look quite strange and missing something. I think that double exhausts on the rear of the S2, positioned quite wide apart, do make it look much better than this, more sports car like. The reflectors, well, , but the cabin quality does look a bit better. Not sure that I could be doing with most of these gadgets etc though, and I would imagine driving the car with servo-ed brakes would give far less feel. For any taller drivers I expect that you'd just not be able to see with those silly visor things. If I sit up properly the top of the screen is almost blocked on mine as it is. Electric windows just seem like another thing to go wrong, and I expect that you'd really have to have the sports pack to give it better handling. Good photos though. For all the extra weight, performance doesn't seem to have suffered, but I think something of the essence of the car is being lost with all the softening up... Normally I would think about trading mine in for a newer version after a couple of years but I don't think I'll bother in this case.
JAMES Posted January 2, 2004 Posted January 2, 2004 So whats the new UK spec then? Do they look the same with the new style wheels, exhaust, reflectors, etc? Or is that just in America? To be honest I really like the new Elise and in a way wish I had waited for a while to get one but I imagine it would be more expensive with all the extra things on.
Mark H Posted January 2, 2004 Author Posted January 2, 2004 There is no new UK spec Elise yet its only in America but its only a matter of time. Thats if you dont count the recent S2 refresh where they added some of the new components such as the sun visors, electric windows etc.
malbon Posted January 2, 2004 Posted January 2, 2004 So is this rumoured S3 just a rumour then. I guess it must be. Why else launch the elise into a massive market place like america with yesteryears design. Is it me or is the elise looking for M350 like all the time. I think by the time the S3 DOES come out the S1 will look like a completely different car or model altogether.
