rocketian
The BBMF Lancaster did a fly past and a few circuits at the Chateau Impney Hill Climb on Sunday, hairs on back-of-neck-standing time again.
Dr H
Awesome. Was at Flying Legends on Sunday. It's amazing what feelings and emotions these 'lumps of metal' can stir. But then again they (and what they stand for) really are so much more than just metal......... We were lucky enough to meet Sqd Ldr 'Johnny' Johnson. He sighed a book for us and we had a quick chat with him. Very unassuming. He didn't think he was a hero. He said he was one of the lucky ones who came back. They were just ordinary blokes doing a job apparently! Also met Archie McInnes - BoB Hurricane pilot, then went to Africa in 1941 and was shot down by a Messerschmidt BF109. Belly landed at over 200mph, broke his arm very badly and they had to amputate it. Once again a very nice bloke, willing to talk about his experiences. He said he just loved the feeling of flying and wanted to be up there as much as he could. My boy with Johnny Johnson - he's a true gent!
