simondann111s Posted June 9, 2003 Posted June 9, 2003 What the maximum avatar size I can upload, the one I'm useing now is making me feel sick
Mark H Posted June 9, 2003 Posted June 9, 2003 The maximum image size for forum members is set to 100kb so I guess that also applies to avatars. If you host the file yourself then there is no limt at all as you just point the avatar url to it. The only problem when avatars start getting massive is that it slows down the pages loading for people on dial up modems. I stripped loads of images out of mine to make it a lot smaller, I have tools that will compress animated gifs if you want me to try it on anything you create
Mark H Posted June 9, 2003 Posted June 9, 2003 I've just tested it and I can half the size of both yours and Mark A's avatars. So send me one if you want it compressing.
simondann111s Posted June 10, 2003 Author Posted June 10, 2003 Thanks for that, I'll do some work on a new one tonight..
Kris H Posted July 5, 2003 Posted July 5, 2003 Folks Have been trying to compress a file to make it fit within the size restrictions etc. Can anyone help? I really am clueless at this stuff Basically I have a jpeg to use as my avatar and can't get the bloody thing sorted at all, plus I have no where to post it at present. I think it's about 400kb at the moment. Is there an easy way to reduce these things, short of chopping half the picture off? Any help gratefully received! Kristian
Mark H Posted July 5, 2003 Posted July 5, 2003 If you email it to me then I'll compress it down for you It may well be that your software does not have the feature to compress images.
Kris H Posted July 6, 2003 Posted July 6, 2003 Cheers. My software's very basic and I reckon that either I'm too clueless to find what I'm looking for, or it's not there. Will send file through when I get back from the run today. Kristian
