halfpenny
Ok. I wrote to Yokohama...here is what they said. Dear Mr. Halfpenny, Thank you for you enquiry regarding the A048R LTS tyre. You have indeed been given the correct information, Yokohama Dealers are not permitted to sell this particular tyre as it is a be-spoked Lotus tyre which has been tunned and designed for Lotus Cars. Lotus own the 'mould' rights of the tyre which is why it can be only sold through Lotus Dealers. Yokohama do manufacture a 225/45-17 A048 (Non Lotus)tyre which can be purchased through Yokohama Dealers but obviously does not have the same design characteristics as the Lotus Branded tyre. Please contact Russell Gibbons at Lotus Sports Centre on 01953 608507, or alternatively email [email protected] for more information on your nearest Lotus Dealer. I hope this answers your question, however if I can be on any more help, please do not hesitate to contact me. Anyone know what the "design characteristic" differences maybe ?? Mark A
Anyone know what the "design characteristic" differences maybe ?? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> It's quite commont for manufacturers to develop a tyre specifically for the car, and to get the correct spec of tyre you need to buy them from the dealer network. For example a Pirelli P6000 on a BMW direct from the factory is different to a P6000 you buy at Kwikfit, in the same sizes. If you need a replacement you buy it from the Dealer, if you buy it from Kwikfit then you could be buying a 'reject tyre'. There is nothing actually wrong with the tyre but if it is not to the exact standards that BMW developed then it becomes an aftermarket fitment. As I said the tyre is perfectly safe and probably works almost as well, it's just not what BMW developed.
halfpenny
Cheers Mark. I can't wait for the service at the factory, so I guess it's down to NW to part with £340...... Merry Xmas Exige !
