Insurance - Short Term Cover

Hi All, I'm considering taking my car off the road for a period of time (stonechip, general tidy up etc). My current policy expires in the very near future. Current insurance company won't provide short term cover, and if I take up annual cover it will cost me nearly 20% of the annual fee, to cancel after one months cover  . I realise they have costs and are in business, but think it is rather exorbitant. So does anyone know of or use a competitive insurer who will provide short term cover.

Thanks in advance.

Try Googling "Daily car insurance" there's plenty to choose from........... :(

Thanks for the response Reg, I was hoping for some personal recommendations also.

The ones I have tried so far have either been ridiculous or don't accept vehicles above group 18.

i've used www.TemporaryCover.com so i can drive a car for a couple of weeks a few times, never claimed so no idea how good/bad they are

How many days is 'short term'

If you do a hpi on ur car for £5 with RAC, they will give you free 7 days cover with NU, in the hope you take the cover out after but if you cancel on ur 7th day it doesn't cost you anymore then the £5 hpi check.

or as my mates lil brother did for 2 months (he's a student, so I can let him off) he insured himself with any insurance company, and cancelled in the 14 day period (which most companies offer) and pay just the £20-£30 admin fee. u have to remember here if something does happen, u pay the full premium and cant cancel.

other then that, i used the monthly cover with www.ebikeinsurance.co.uk on my motorbike....I'm sure they have a www.ecarinsurance.co.uk worth a look anyway!

LOL, i like that! I did similiar with a ski trip insurance, i took out a yearly family ski holiday insurance policy the day before we went away for a week. when we got home we obviously didn't claim for anything, and then i thought why don't i cancel it, 2 days later i had the money back in my account :)

Any insurance policy will not be refunded if you make a claim, even if its a yearly policy. I got caught by this when i wrote my car off last year, i had a freelander van i was doing up at the time which i was wanted to use until i got my payout to buy another car, but my insurance company wouldn't swap the insurance it as it was a commercial, and because all my no claims was on that car, i could only get inurance cover at the full rate for a year(which was massive) with other insurance companies, even though i only needed it for a couple of weeks (well thats what i thought at the time until the useless insurance company messed me around with the payout)
