Motorshow

I went to the motorshow on Saturday, and whilst I know it's usual to say that these things are rubbish/overpriced/disappointing etc, I thought it was quite good. Got there very early and went straight to hall 6, which us basically where all of the sports cars are and quickly got onto all the stands that I wanted to and spoke to the relevant folks. Had a good nose around the TVRs, Porches, Nobles, Caterhams, Bentley stand and so on. Also got to see the atom, westfields, kumala and some of the other types of cars that I'm interested in at the moment. Did the 4x4 experience thing (which is free but fills up very early so you need to get your name down quickly if you want to do it) and blagged our way into one of the prestige hospitality areas and some of the others, which is always nice. :D

Didn't think much of the lotus stand again, which I think frankly was unlikely to attract too many new people to the marque. They had a 111r, a 111s and two exiges, no entry level cars which made them seem less accessible than they are. Colours of the cars not very exciting either and since they were quite near the TVRs which were brilliantly presented, I think that this was a bad move. VXR was there as well and personally I think for a show car the engine bay looked very messy and not too impressive compared to the neatness of the toyota lump, and the interior looked lower grade as well. Didn't think much of the nobles either.

Overall I think that there was a big difference between those manufacturers who'd made a big effort (Ford Group, for example, who had all the Tracey Island stuff there and put on a big show) and a few of the others who'd just turned up. Merc and BMW weren't there at all (personally not bothered at all). Some interesting concept cars and some strange things from some of the small specialists.

Will try to post some photos in the gallery if I can work out how.

If you're thinking about going anyway, I'd say it was worth it but get there early!

Kristian

No, don't tend to bother with that but I've heard from a couple of others that it's not great. The mini display thing and 4x4 thing are free anyway so if you were going to look around properly I reckon you'd struggle for time.

Adding a few photos here, and hoping that someone knows how to set up a folder in the gallery so I can stick some more in there. I may be being daft or may not have the authorities...

Bummer for me then. Would have liked to have seen the jags. What normally puts me off those is that half of what you see actually isn't really as dramatic as you get on your average 1st lotus day, but if this year's was good, so much the better. The XJ 220 was in the main bit as well (I suppose there might have been two of them) by that bloody great poster of Clarkson. I thought that the show was pretty good overall though.
