avalon
Car has not been used for 3 weeks so when I came to start it up it was not a surprise that the battery had run down. Connected jump leads from my main car but it would not start from these strangely enough. Whilst I was puzzling over the reason for this (there was still some juice in the battery cos the interior light was on and the battery is only a few months old), the alarm started to beep (feebly). Pressing the buttons on the key fob did not deactivate it but (assuming key fob battery u/s, though I think it's fine), it did not switch off when I used the touch key in the receptacle on the RH side of the steering column as per the "emergency disarming" bit in the handbook. Being non techie, I am now bereft of ideas, so have disconnected the battery as the only way to cut the alarm. (battery needs charging anyway). Is it likely that the battery is so week that it has not got enough power to disarm the alarm? Any ideas appreciated!!
tazbaz69
well i,m sure that if your battery isn,t charged right then ur alarm has its own back up battery, the alarm sounds of your battery goes low or you disconnet it normally with out turning alarm off. have you got a corba alarm?? if so u should have a key with you fob where u can cut the alarm off and then charge the battery?? Martin_S
I left my lights on at the weekend, so I have recent experience of the behaviour of an alarm with a flat battery! Mine is the optional upgrade Cobra alarm system, as fitted to early S1's. If yours is the same system (or functions in the same way), the following comments may help. Flat battery resulted in the alarm triggering - only way to shut it off was by using the over-ride key in the unit under the dash on the passenger side. Any attempt to disarm the alarm with the keyfob resulted in a continuous tone for a few seconds before the alarm went off again. Connected jump leads to another vehicle, switched the system back on at the over-ride key, closed all the doors etc., to avoid confusing the system any more than it was already, and disarmed it with the key fob, as normal. It disarmed straight away, and the engine fired first turn of the ignition key. The owners handbook says to disarm the system with the key over-ride before disconnecting the battery, to avoid the alarm triggering. It also says that if the alarm and key-fob are out of synchronisation, you need to press the 'disarm' button on the key fob twice, for at least a second each time, to transmit and synchronise the codes. Suggest you try disarming the alarm with the key, recharge fully and refit the battery, re-arm and re-synchronise the alarm as described above. If that doesn't work, I'm afraid you're probably looking at a call-out to an alarm specialist.
avalon
Cured the problem but not sure how! The key fob and disarm key had no effect with the battery so low Charged up the battery and reconnected to lights flashing alarm blaring etc. Pressed the key fob button a couple of times , it all reset thankfully and the car started up. Must invest in a trickle charger! Thanks for the responses.
