kimbo Posted September 22, 2006 Posted September 22, 2006 The aluminium crossmember in my car was scratched whilst some other work was being carried out on the car. Lotus supplied the following information which may be of use if the same happens to you. Deep scratches should be lightly bevelled with a router and abraded dry with 240 free cut paper. Fill repairs with U-POL Top Stop filler or equivalent, dry flat with 240 free-cut paper then 600 grade. Light scratches or marks should be flatted with 240 and then 600 grade free-cut paper. Thoroughly degrease area with DuPont 3920 using wipe on wipe off method. Mix paint as per DuPont specification by weight: Centari 6000 Lotus New Aluminium B35 (DuPont BS97) = 100 BK 220 Activator = 10 AB 385 Thinner = 30 Apply paint in several light coats up to appropriate shutlines or panel edges, allowing each coat to dry before applying the next, until the repair is covered. The above procedure is for information only, but any competent paint shop should be able to effect a satisfactory repair using these guidelines. kimbo
