Buying Elise Soon, Any Advice?

Hi all,

Im new here and i was hoping someone could answer some questions for me before i go and purchase my Elise.

Im almost ready to get a Elise, im looking at the 1.8 Elise tourer MK2!

However i have a few questions regards to this.

I live in the Midlands so are there plenty of specialists for parts, MOT etc ??

What are the common problems with running a Elise??? If so what cost is involved in this???

Any other advice on my buying my first Elise would be much appreciated. I have waited sometime to buy one of these and i want to make it a happy experience and not a bad one!

Regards

Pudd

Hello mate

As long as you get one with a decent history you should be fine. One from a Lotus dealer is a sure fire way of getting peace of mind (and a warranty) although one from the classifieds would be an option - you can get them reviewed by a dealer (like Nick Whale) for about £100 to make sure you're not buying a dog.

Once you've gone through this route, you should be ok. Running costs are low, but I'd check out insurance quotes before you buy so you can budget for that. Servicing can come from independent garages like Horizon rather than expensive dealers. Horizon are very highly regarded by guys on MLOC. I haven't used them, but I will when I need to. Watch for the mileage on the car you go for as the services vary on cost based on mileage - for example at 27k a more expensive service s needed for about £4-500ish.

Other than that, I'd go for it mate. Why not go for an S2 111s - you get 156bhp and (IMHO) really sexy 8 spoke alloys...

Hope that helps - don't rush into buying anything. I'm sure others will have more advise. Look forward to seeing you at a run or pub meet soon :drive:

Cheers, Rich
