bermudabob
I finally feel like a proper Elise owner now... I managed to knock my front numberplate off whilst reversing off a friends drive (thick, long grass under car..)! I can rest easy now...

For your next test, try exiting a road tail first!! Get some velcro, offer up the numberplate (broken as it is), then tear it off and leave it in the boot. So if plod ever asks, you can show him the scarred plate as a trophy (and where it would go if it wasn't broken).
neural9
I second the velcro thing. Did it constantly on my S1 and did it in my S2 on the weekend for the first time. I always drive with the number plate on so that I can use it as a guide as to when to stop the car suddenly after I drive over kerbs. The velcro makes a much nicer tearing noise than screws being torn out of GRP. Go to your local hobby store and purchase stick on heavy duty velcro tape at 50mm thick. It's tough stuff. You'd be surprised.
