well at end of day the engine is rover K series, so parts wise i also go to rover to buy items needed as there alot cheaper then Lotus. MPG is great i use about £20 of fuel every 2 -3 weeks. service wise, alot of ppl like to have main dealer but if ur handy with engine i,d do it myself, ok u haven,t got the stamps in book but so wat, keep recipts of wat u bought when u service it.

with ur budget u u will pick up a very nice s1 elise easy, most cars will have mods already such as sports exhausts and induction kits. U will fit it slighty small in the car itself being big lad, but u will soon get used to that, as long as u flexible to get in/out with roof on ;)

See a post a little further down about a 111S for sale... needs a little work doing, but its cheap for what it is.

Loads of info onthe site if you search... as for where to take the car, update your profile to say where you are and we'll stand more chance of helping you! ;)

Running costs aren't too shocking, specialists - minor serive £90, Major (incl cambelt) £350. MPG, take it steady 40+, hooning it on road 32 ish, hooning on track - i;ve had it down to 18mpg :( Exhaust, stainless ones are about £350, £150ish on eBay...

Whereabouts are you?

6'2" no problem as long as you're flexible!

£10K-£13K = S1 up to 2000 or S1 111s with miles/neglect.

Check insurance costs.

There's a whole checklist of things to look out for. Elise is a low volume car and lots of things wear out before they should. You should either look for a car with things replaced/upgraded with superior uprated parts or factor in the cost of so doing. Could easily make a £2K difference to purchase price so do your homework! Plenty of folks on here could help out.

There's a meet this Sunday if you want to join us & chat. See events section.

What car do you have at the moment ?

Running costs are generally low on the scale of things. Insurance stings and some services can add up but on the whole are reasonable

Parts are cheap - ie disks/pads/tyres etc.

suspension needs looking after and the S1's will be looking at some bills now due to be 5/6/7 years old - but nothing to sting you.

If the engine goes pop its not so much a problem - just bought a VVC for a grand !

HGF is the major concern but even so your prob. looking at only £5/600

bodywork damage is expensive if u decide not to go through the insurance but you've just gotta be careful where you park...and how you drive !! :)

I'd say go for it - Not until you actually own one can you appreciate its ups and downs and even if you dont like it you can sell and not lose much as they hold value...but i doubt you will sell

HTH

Hi

Cheers for the info all....

I'm from Wolverhampton as asked earlier.....

I did drive a 306 GTI6 but have now sold to make way for an elise so i'm driving a run around atm.

Isurance is going to be a bit of a stinger as im only 22 and lost my NCB last year, however i have a quote for £1400, which in relation to other cars with similar performance is resonable.
