Simon_111s
Apart from visting my local New Holland dealer (yes there is one!) and getting some proper field tyres fitted i was wondering what else i could fit. I've decided that the bridgestones are too much of an all things to all men compromise , ie, sort of ok in wet and damp and dry but not really that good at anything. Back in the day i used to get goodyear aquatread tyres on the front of my Lancia, the wierd ones with the centre channel. They certainly improved wet grip and pretty much took away an sort of aquaplaning risk. I noticed at the meet that several of the S1's had some rather funky directional V patern treads, are these the famed Toyos? Am i just over reacting to my little excursion? I just don't fancy using the car in the wet again until i know its not little to jump into another field at the slightest provocation.
Scott_Mac
Yes Simon, they are the famed Toyo's.. many of us run them SimonG does, as does Walshy... They don't come in 175 fronts, only 185... but thats apparantly ok (195's are the problem one i keep harping on about) Horizon are authorised (and very cheap) Toyo dealers too..... Simon G
I would highly recommend Toyos for there damp/wet weather grip, excellent and very predictable. For the price of two rear OE Bridgestones you can have a set of four Toyos, 185/50/R16 up front, and 225/45/R17 rears, both with rim protection (no more scuffed rims). My rears are also slightly different with a stiffer sidewall. I can give you the full codes if you want.
Simon_111s
Sounds good to me. The fronts are hardly worn at all and i wouldn't normally consider changing them unless it's likely to do terrible things to the handling.

Maxf
Simon, Do you know if the toyos come in 195/50 R16? What's this about your rears having stiffer sidewalls? That was one of the 'problems' people had wasn;t it - too much flex?
Scott_Mac
You can get the fronts in 195 format, but Mr Walsh says you shouldn't use them on std suspension as you'll be locking up a lot.
dr.j
I've got an S1 rather than S2, but would be interested to hear about how to identify (and where to find) Proxes with stiffer sidewalls. Whats that about rim protection as well? Is that a standard thing for the proxes or another option? Might be a daft question but I've never really studied these tyres close up. Cheers A
Simon G
Simon, if you change the rears then match the fronts, Toyos all round or Bridgestones all round. You can sell you front Bridgestones, I've just sold mine, a guy was looking for some on SELOC after mine had gone. Have a look on http://www.toyo.co.uk/index.php?fuseaction=car.t1-s The new T1-R is out, not in our sizes yet, could be an improvement on the T1-S. On the chart you'll see the T1-S range, the 195 is a 195/55/R16, same sidewall profile as the original S2 tyre. Mine are the 185/50's on the front, the slightly lower profile is fine. My rears are Toyo PROXES T1-S 225/45 ZR17 94W RF, there is also a 94Y version I think, different speed rating. You need to bed the Toyos in for a few hundred miles, they are a bit slippery to begin with (no bad), once they wear a bit the grip is very very good in all conditions, but they excel in wet weather. They also look good. HTH .............
Simon G
Think all Proxes come with rim protection, just means the edge of the sidewall next to the rim sticks out a bit and protects the rim against mild kurbing etc. Alot of tyres have this now. Simon G
Rim protection, you can just about see where the tyre protrudes over the rim ......

Anthony
Can anyone help? I bought (off e bay!) 4 rear tyres 225/45/r17 bridgestone potenza's, or so I thought, but they are this size and bridgestone expedia s01's. I cannot find this size in this product on the bridgestone website. Has anyone any experience or knowledge of these tyres? Ps just back from the Nurburgring and Magny Cours - great fun.
