Wheel Alignment

Bramble111s

Recommended Posts

Misjudged a right turn junction and must have caught the rear offside wheel.

At the time it seemed like a mighty wack, but I can't see any marks on the alloy.

Having had my geo done 3 months ago, I would prefer not to spend another £100

on checking it.

But with my Trackday booked, I would have peace of mind knowing I hadn't

buggered it up.

I presume their is no other way to check and it is probally out????

It seems like this is an expensive mistake I have made.... :)

You have been busy haven't you!

Have you tried driving along in a straight line and letting go of the wheel, probably less of an issue with a rear wheel, but see if it pulls you anywhere... also try accelerating to about 50 in 3 rd gear and lifting hard on and off the throttle - used for testing rear toelinks, but may show something up here too....

Otherwise it may be tricky to test.

Hmm, I did try letting go of the wheel and seeing if the car steered off somewhere, norfolk roads are not the best to test this though, will have to find a flat bit and try again.

Will have a go with your 50 on off bit as well.

thanks!

This is not the kind of busy I prefer..

Bramble - FWIW if you're not sure then £100 quid or not I'd get it checked - will be a lot more expensive if you go off on a track because of un predicatble handling, and maybe quite dangerous too. Before I got mine done it felt OK but after I couldn't believe how different it was.

If there's no mark though are you sure that you hit the alloy and didn't just smack the tyre? If it was just the tyre it's more likely to have absorbed the impact better I would have thought.

It could well have been the tyre, frankly I was amazed I hit anything,

I can only think as the I was the junction was uphill going to a flat road

that I turned in like a muppet to hit the kurb, certainly surprized me.

That or there was a great solid hedgehog just away from the kurb!

I agree with you entirely, as I know the transformation a geo made

to my car, as I only had it done in Feb!

I have asked Stratton for a price to look at it.

Noticed on my service report all my gaiters are perished and split as well,

so have asked for a price to replace these as well.

I presume they extend the life of the parts they cover and should be done,

rather than left?

Bramble, I'd have thought if the car feels ok then you should be alright.

Like Kris said, if it's just the tyre that was hit it could be ok.

Although it could be worth going back to have it checked where you had the geo done, surely they won't charge you £100 just to check it's ok?

As for the gators, you will need to have them sorted to pass your MoT I should think.

Yes, I am hoping Stratton will give it a quick look for free or £20 or so,

fingers crossed.

Gaitors, ok, will leave till MOT then, unless anyone thinks this will mean more wear on ball joints etc?

I'd get someone to check them before the MoT, it's a real pain if you fail it and have to get fitting new ones sorted and can't drive the car!

Took me about 3 weeks to get mine through emissions for the MoT! Real pain!

I hit a kerb with a rear wheel and dented it up pretty well (had to buy a new wheel) - you couldn't see any damage until the tyre came off (it kept going flat). 2 geo's said it was fine afterwards.

Well worth checking out properly - it will be much dearer to fix the slightest of track incidents than a geo is now.
