bluenose
Just in from Lotus Further to the statement issued in February this year,Lotus is pleased to advise that despite major difficulties outside of it's control, progress has been made on the purchase of sufficient stocks of parts to launch the inspection/treatment/improvement scheme, and it is now anticipated parts will be available from May. Once again, thank you for your continued patience. Thought you'd like to know,so you can leave me alone for another month!!
simon_prickett
So, does this mean I could take my 1997 S1 to, say, Nick Whale, and have them inspect it and fix any problems if I have any? Simon.

ipanter
Where abouts in the footwell should i be checking for corrosion?
Stu M
I think I read on an earlier post regarding footwell corrison, that Lotus would carry out treatment under warranty, for cars less than eight years old. If that's the case, I'm starting to get concerned that any further delays might mean I'd unable get my 96 Elise treated in time. Can anyone confirm Lotus' position on this please? Thanks Stu
Scott_Mac
Nope, all S1's are covered, they are doing cars that don't have any corrosion as a goodwill gesture anyway... As for where you should be checking, lift up either the carpets (if you are gay) or the rubber mats... if you see small pit marks, then you have the problem, if you see the ground, you have a serious problem.... Either way drop it off with Ian and it'll get sorted
GCCK
Just to clarify what you've said, Scott. The corrosion in question is due apparently to the trapping of moisture between the BONDED rubber mat and the aluminium floor panel and a chemical reaction which ensued. If no bonded mat, then no corrosion. Carpets would not produce the same problem, or even if they did, Lotus would not accept liability. Did ALL S1's get the bonded mat as standard factory fit? Scott_Mac
AFAIK all S1's had the bonded mats as std, some removed them upon fitting carpets etc I have the rubber mats and the std Elise logo'd mats on top of it.....
bluenose
Yep all S1's came out the factory with the bonded footwell mats. As soon as we start getting the parts through I'll post a thread on here - you may have to show a degree of patience as there may be 1 or 2 cars affected, but as you've waited this long ......... Scott, you would be grouchy to if you worked over the bank holiday!!
