My Bosch Type 063 has given up after just over 3 years (2 months out or Warranty 😩). I'm thinking of trying a Varta as Bosch are made in China now. Any other recommendations please?

Thanks, Andrew

I recently had this issue too and ended up getting a higher spec Bosch 063  battery from Costco. Saved me about £30 I think.

I have been using Odyssey batteries for years they last ages if looked after and are also smaller and a bit lighter.

The last battery I bought was for the Evora. I bought it from Tayna batteries in Wales. They were very competitive on price and delivered promptly.

Related comment…what charger do you use?

I went through several batteries every 3yrs or so on my S1; was using an ancient metal box charger with an ammeter on and a transformer that ‘hummed’ when online!

Then I switched to an Optimate with a Save/Charge/Test and Maintain programme that’s connected after every run, and my current battery is 10yrs old!

(he says…tempting fate!)

Or maybe your alternator is overcharging?

I'm using Aldi chargers Phil. They've performed well, but I dont think their 'logic' is as good as CTEK or Optimate ones and suspect they may overcharge and end battery life prematurely, but for £12.99 I can't complain. Can't be the alternator as sadly I hardly use the car.

I've gone for a Yuasa 5000, rated at 52Ah and 520A (EN) - never realised these are essentially the 'whoomph' figures for the battery and 063 is just the size!

I've been thoroughly happy with Varta Blues.  First one lasted 18 years, was still working but significantly degraded.  Second is still going.

Varta Blue Dynamic B32 is a good swap for your 063, with a 4 to 5 year warranty. Yuasa YBX5053 is another reliable option.

I've an Antigravity ATX12-HD battery not cheap but sheds several kg's and hasn't yet missed a beat. I do bring it into the house when the car is sorn'd over the winter but so far it hasn't caused any issues.
