Popular Post gavcolton Posted May 11 Popular Post Posted May 11 I found the standard exhaust note on the Emira a bit too quiet for my tastes. To bring back some of that character (when compared to the Evora and Exige!), I decided to fit the Exhaust Valve Controller from Seriously Lotus – and I’m very pleased with the results. It's an easy DIY for anyone who's interested, with minimal tools needed. This controller gives you three modes: Valve closed – Ideal for track day noise restrictions Valve open – Full-on noise and drama! Factory mode – Retains the ECU-controlled behaviour I chose the Seriously Lotus unit because, it’s good quality (the remote feels better quality that the Emira key!), it mounts away from the hot exhaust in a more protected area unlike some others I've seen. https://www.seriouslylotus.com/emira-exhaust-valve-controller Here’s a step-by-step guide for anyone considering doing the same. 🧰 Tools Required Phillips screwdriver Allen key (for wheel arch liner) Tack lifter / trim removal tool (a flathead screwdriver might work, but could damage the clips) Trolley jack Torque wrench Damp cloth 🛠️ Installation Guide Slightly loosen the wheel bolts on the driver’s side rear wheel. Jack up the car using the rear jacking point (just in front of the rear wheel). It’s clearly marked with a sticker. Ensure the car is secure – handbrake on, in gear, and chocked if necessary. Remove the rear wheel. Remove screw-type the wheel arch liner fixings. There are approximately 15 plastic screw-type clips. Note: 2 of these use washers and don’t screw into the bodywork – don’t lose them! Remove the 3 clips around the rear vent using a tack lifter or trim tool. Remove the single Allen bolt located near the top outer edge of the wheel arch. Carefully remove the wheel arch liner. A little gentle persuasion should see it come free. Locate and disconnect the exhaust valve connector towards the rear of the car (see picture). Press the small plastic tab on the front of the connector to release it – it should come apart easily. Disconnect the front section of the exhaust valve plug. Carefully lift and slide it away from the bodywork. A trim tool can help here if needed. Connect the exhaust valve controller between the two plugs – it will only go in one way. Clean the mounting shelf (where the control box will go) with a damp cloth, then dry it thoroughly. Route the control box upwards into the small shelf, ensuring the cable has no kinks. Secure the cable joins to the bodywork with cable ties to prevent movement while driving. Apply the supplied Velcro to the control box and stick it to the shelf. Hold it in place for a few seconds to ensure it bonds. Tidy up the wiring with additional cable ties so nothing rattles or rubs against bodywork. Test the controller by starting the car and checking the valve functions correctly with the remote. (Take care if the car is still jacked up - I take no responsibility) Reinstall the wheel arch liner in reverse order: Start with the Allen bolt Then the three push-fit clips Finish with the screw-in clips and don’t forget the two washered clips which don’t screw into the bodywork Refit the rear wheel and tighten the bolts lightly. Lower the car carefully. Torque the wheel bolts to 105Nm in a star pattern. Open the valve and go for a drive – enjoy the new soundtrack! I’ve found this to be a worthwhile and enjoyable upgrade that really transforms the Emira’s character. If anyone has any questions or wants photos of a particular step, just give me a shout. 1 1 Quote
