I have a couple of pics of the Old Smoker from the Osprey book on Elans, taken in the Peak District

I love the blurring head on picture.

The effect is down to the shutter speed and F-stop chosen, plus it was an actual action shot.  

The photographers camera was a 35mm with a wide angel lens on (film - pre digital and NO Photoshop) it was slung under the bumper of his little Citroen van, and extra long cable release to the cabin that he operated by hand. 

I had to be a car length behind him (Elan sized - no more than 12 ft ) and to drive at a constant 30mph. 

Blurring is right Guy 😊.  It's like you see on panned sports photos.  A lot of people can cheat today its much easier in Photoshop to add blur to backgrounds and false movement in the wheels to 'speed up' and image.

If the photo is used the photographer to credit is Duncan Wherrett.

Photo was taken on the road down to Derbyshire Bridge in the Goys Valley, just outside Buxton.  Very scenic but becomes a dead end.

Even more impressive now you've explained all the fancy stuff is done 'Old School' and not using Photoshop.

Better still to know he had been a top notch studio based photographer for years.  Not a Sports or motors photographer at all.  
 

He said he answered an ad by Osprey for someone to photo very old tractors for a book, he applied and got the job.  Book was a raging success in US and Oz where they’re mad about the very early tractors. 
 

They then asked him to do a book on the XK120, he’d never photo’d cars before !  Then doing the successive XK’s and followed by one on the Elan.
