Popular Post Peter
Thought I would share this :- We just got back from a road trip to Spain. We used Britteny Ferries Car & motor cycle tours in Spain, Galicia and the Pilgrims way tour. This is an excellent tour using 4 and 5 star hotels, the route on the web site says 653 miles but this goes not include the distance to the first hotel and from the last hotel back to Bilbao, we did nearly twice that distance. Leave plenty of time to get back to the port on the last day and go over the mountains a 3 hour run. There are some very good roads if you don’t use the motorways all the time. The last hotel advertises a scenic drive, this is a road made for Lotus well the first 40 miles are, if you do it, when you get to the Stop sign turn round and go back the way you came, continuing is not much good. If you want anymore details let me know.
hartleyj
We've just come back from a 2 week trip to northern Spain using much the same route although we stuck to the coastal route coming back as well. Not sure what the price is with Brittany but we booked the hotels direct (Booking.com) and if you're looking to do this then the Paradors are worth including. Try also Little Hotels of Spain as they are very good. We've used them twice and never a bad one. We went for 2 weeks in June, weather cloudy and not as warm as expected (last time May and similar temps). UK similarly disappointing! We didn't want to rush it hence 2 weeks, given the ferry cost (c.£1000) longer seemed to make more sense. Food and welcome are beyond reproach. Brittany give a great service. Roads are fantastic and traffic very light (we avoided the A roads and used the National Routes (N roads) as much as possible. THere's a great enthusiasm for all things cars in Spain and we saw several motoring groups and a rally whilst there. Picos de Europa one of the highlights but the beaches are fab and the food is great!
Phil Hutchins
We were in N Spain for a few weeks in June…sadly not in Elise…and I agree with all comments ref the quality of the roads! I varied our hotels between Brittany, Paradores, Booking.com, Hotel.com, AirBnb etc. I didn’t book a pre-scheduled tour package this time as we needed to be in a couple of specific places that didn’t fit, but it’s worth noting that if you book a few hotels with Brittany Ferries (maybe just one?) then you still qualify for the 30% saving on your ferry costs, just as if it was tour! Particularly useful as the routes to Santander and Bilbao can be expensive! We did Plymouth-Santander out and Le Havre-Portsmouth back a month later with 3 hotels booked via Brittany. Wish I had known before I booked!
Jonathan E
Our trip last year was, coast road to Santander, Guernica, San Sebastián, Biarritz. Then, Pau, Col de Tourmelet into Pamploma back into the Pyrenees for a day then down into Bilbao, Ojo Guarenas for some waterfalls, Puerto de San Glorio, Europa National Park then a week chilling out on the North coast at Llanes. Roads and scenery were just fantastic. Brittany Ferries Plymouth-Santander. Route was planned using MyRoute-app, hotels booked using booking.com. We’ve done different parts of the Alps previously and wanted to do the Pyrenees. Having now done the Western Pyrenees we’re off to see the middle and Eastern end in September. Brittany Ferries to Caen, down through France via Bordeaux, Tarbes then a couple of days playing in the mountains via Andorra followed by a few days in Barcelona, a week chilling out on the French South coast before heading home. Can’t wait! Only down side of the whole trip last year was that we spotted a small pot hole on a little used mountain pass road just outside Bedous on the N134😂😂 If you ever get the chance just do it 👍
