kmr1966 Posted June 5, 2024 Posted June 5, 2024 We have a 2002 S2. would like to get the paintwork perfect, currently I would say conservatively its an 8 out of 10. Is it better to go with the current trend and wrap it or just respray. Any recommendations on a good bodyshop that spray well or even a company thad do decent wrapping. Cheers Quote
CDM2018 Posted June 5, 2024 Posted June 5, 2024 I used signs and graphics in Hinckley who wrapped my car and after 5 years still ok if the paintwork is 8/10 might consider stage 3 paint correction from a detailer ? plenty of deatilers around but as for body shop specialists Option 1 in west mids are well regarded amongst lotus owners ? Dave-hp Posted June 5, 2024 Posted June 5, 2024 8 out of 10 isn't bad, what is the missing 2? If its light surface marking, like CDM suggests, a good detailer may be able to restore that additional 2, to get it top notch. Might be worth getting some quotes form detailers to see what they can do with it, at what cost. Has to be much cheaper than a full paint job. Quote
CDM2018 Posted June 5, 2024 Posted June 5, 2024 Full stage 3 I got quoted £1.5k with a guy locally who was decent , a bigger detailed firm asked about £2.5k in the end I decided to buy the kit £500 and try it myself but I realised my limitations were I didn’t have a garage as it’s a time consuming process and you need a clean space to complete the job. wrapping is good means to cover little imperfections and there are advances in materials even a liquid vinyl is available ? Dave-hp Posted March 23 Posted March 23 Ive booked mine in for a 2 stage paint correction and ceramic coat. Goes in this Thursday. Its in pretty good nick as it is, but the light swirls are evident in certain light. Anticipating the 18 years of life on the paint work will be brought back up to top dollar! It will be in the shop 2-3 days, hopefully will come out candy gloss. Ill post some results once completed. Detailer will send be progress reports. Watch this space...... Quote

Mine is 6/10 ( especially on the doors) so is a candidate for wrapping. What I do not know is the relative costs of each. I imagine that a full respray will be north of £4K , with wrapping perhaps half that , but I have just made those numbers up . Quote
CDM2018 Posted March 24 Posted March 24 I got wrap quote from Yani guy of you tube and telly ! I needed a bank loan and to be honest I didn’t care for their business approach I guess my Evora wasn’t suitable calibre for their services ? Quote
Oakman Posted March 25 Posted March 25 When your saying 'wrap' it do you mean a colour change or same colour wrap or fit PPF film on it ? Neither of which are cheap, plus if a car has some paint issues and problems like micro blistering on fibreglass/composite cars you're only really covering it up. I have a friend that does high end PPF installation and paint correction, some cars require correction before the PPF is fitted - IE. he doesn't want a customer coming back saying 'you can still see the faulty paint'. I have worked with him and seen a variety of such issues, even on very expensive untouched new hypercars. Quote
