Cumbrian owner Posted January 5, 2024 Posted January 5, 2024 Hi all, Ive been trying to reprogramme a new key fob for our S1 Elise without any luck whatsoever!! Ove followed the manuals instructions but when it says switch ignition on and insert touch key the alarm tell tale will light steady - well it doesn't light at all, therefore no progress to the further steps, Its been one of those frustrating things where I repeat the same steps over and over again hoping for a different result!! I'm fairly sure I am just missing something very simple here but can't just put my finger on it. Would appreciate anyone's thoughts on this. Many thanks in advance,
Lithopsian Posted January 5, 2024 Posted January 5, 2024 Does your touch-key disarm the alarm? If it doesn't then clearly, nothing else is going to work. It is also important that the alarm is turned off before attempting to program any keys. The process can be frustrating, but obviously if the first step fails, then it is time to fix that.
Cumbrian owner Posted January 6, 2024 Author Posted January 6, 2024 Hi Thanks for joining this discussion, Yes I can use the touch key to arm and disarm the system, The thing is that once I replace the touch key to the receiver with the ignition on there is no tell tale light showing on the dashboard whereas it should be lit steady red. I'm thinking of leaving the reprogramming for a day or two so I don't feel as frustrated when I make the next attempt. Cheers Confused Owner
Lithopsian Posted January 7, 2024 Posted January 7, 2024 That is odd. The process can take several attempts to work, but at least the first step should be straightforward. Are you certain you have a Cobra 6422 alarm? There are several similar systems that have been installed in the Elise, sometimes aftermarket, although if you have a touch-key then I'd have thought the reprogramming sequence would be similar. Next thought, does the alarm tell-tale LED actually work? Does it flash when the alarm or immobiliser is armed? You might try going through the programming sequence despite that LED not showing, although it is worth remembering that the first step would normally erase all the existing keys from the alarm so you'd notice if it was doing anything. You could also try the "quick" fob programming technique, although it is unlikely to work for a brand new fob that hasn't been paired to your alarm before: simply You may need to remove the fob battery for a while before doing this, then just hold down both buttons until the fob LED goes out (with the alarm disarmed). It might take 10 seconds or so, then release the buttons. Then press the big button until the LED flashes, just a second or two. Worth a try since it is so simple compared to the other method. Descriptions of which steps are actually necessary vary slightly, but it does work with existing keys that have lost sync. Last thought is the alarm is unhappy in some way. An obvious one is the siren batteries. The siren contains a rechargeable battery pack so it can sound off even if it is disconnected. That battery pack will have failed by now if it hasn't been replaced. Probably it will have destroyed the circuit board also. Does your alarm actually make a noise if you trigger it? Or if you disable the motion sensor by pressing the small button?
