Insurance including track days

Hi, I’m after insurance that covers track days but don’t know what a reasonable cost would be.

For a benchmark a years premium with my current insurer Directline is £281. The cheapest on Compare the market is £240. So cheap in my opinion. This is for insurance on a 2021 Elise Cup 250, I’m 40, live in Belper, 5000 miles per year.

Obviously Directline et al. don’t cover track days so I’ve been ringing round the specialist insurers.

So far -

Henderson Taylor - wouldn’t quote as the car isn’t garaged (it’s under a carport on the drive).

REIS - £977 includes 6 track days UK or mainland Europe.

Classicline - £846 includes 6 in the UK.

Are these markups from your ‘high street’ insurers typical?

Imo and experience this year that’s good.

I have a 2020 410 sport was getting quotes from Moris of £680 for 1 track day, £5000 excess.

That’s plus £800 (elephant no track days) for the insurance itself. I’m 42 live in Sheffield car being garaged....

Yes I understand stand alone track day cover is around 1% of value of the car.

People really pay that? With the cost of insurance and the track day you’re getting on for a grand a day. Maybe I can’t afford track days then 🤑

The prices you are being quoted sound about right, I'm paying £500 with RIES incl. 6 track days for an Elise S Cup with 7000 miles, garaged with a few mods declared and me being +50.

I was quoted around the £500 level from classicline.  
I understood that the majority of people do it without insurance.  Am I right?

My renewal this year from Competition Car Insurance via Footman James was £420 inc 6 track days.

Interesting you're with Direct Line though as they wouldn't even provide a quote for me, so I ended up with Quote Me Happy (Aviva) for similar premium to you excluding track days.

I'm with ClassicLine and my policy includes 6 track days plus unlimited days with my primary "club" (in my case, LoT). They don't tend to advertise the "unlimited days with your primary club" part.

I gather Manning do unlimited track days.

Be careful with a new car, Classicline will only give you market value, where as in the first year Directline will replace your car in the event of a total loss or the price you paid. 

I only once paid for on the day cover and it was about 0.5% not 1% via Adrian Flux. In previous years always had it with the policy.

Just got a quote from Classic line, but have read that they don't carry forward no claims bonus, so you lose it all when you move elsewhere.

I have but also found that follow on insurers were happy to give me maximum no claims provided I could prove I have had no claims (letter from my insurer).
