lummo
"The Motor Sports Association (MSA) is deeply saddened by the news that motorsport legend John Surtees CBE has passed away aged 83." With four 500cc motorcycle triumphs in the 1950s and ’60s, followed by the 1964 F1 title, he is the only man to win top-level world championships on both two wheels and four, and very likely to be the only man who ever will. As an aside, he also won the senior IoM TT race 3 years in succession. RIP John Surtees.
DeanB
What a shame. I read a really good book over Christmas, written by an American, about the sports car 'wars' between Ford and Ferrari in the 60s and Surtees was portrayed as a giant of racing, the absolute daddy. I was a fan before but ever since then even more so. If anyone wants an idea of just how fast he was look at the obit on Motor Sport Magazine's Web site - he was often quicker than Moss, Clark, Brooks, Rindt even ... And he did it all on bikes too ... I find it unbelievable he wasn't knighted. R.I.P Il Grande John
KurtB
Maybe Dean he turned it down. I thought the same of Eric "Winkle" Brown, but am led to believe he declined the honour.
