Daveb99
Wasn't Zowie Captain Cave man Dave? Needs to be LOUD ;-) A quick google, apparently it's both: http://scoobydoo.wikia.com/wiki/Taffy_Dare Sorry for the thread drift - this will only be appreciated by those of a certain age! Yikes! (That was definitely scooby doo only) Leigh - back on topic - satin black sounds like a wise choice, this build thread will be fascinating from February onwards.... Nick S1
Hi Leigh Im not an Internet stalker honest, I came across this thread via a Google search and thought it looked familiar! Don't think Ive logged on to MLOC for about 10 years, not since I sold my S1. I was over at Lister Bell this afternoon and Craig told me that your order has shot up the delivery slots, that's cracking news, I guess you are pleased? My build has slowed up a bit, short day light hours and being busy at work doesn't help. Picked up some interior bits today, hopefully get back to it after Christmas. If you've not decided on final colour you've made the right decision with black for the chassis, give you a bit more time to keep changing your mind! I guess you're going wide arch, square or round? The original cars had a steel centre section as integral part of the chassis, so the road cars were sprayed as one (chassis and body same colour). The rally cars were obviously painted afterwards in sponsor colours hence you see pictures of original cars with chassis different colour to body. Let me know when you're picking up the chassis, and if you need any pointers you're more than welcome to come and have another look at mine. Cheers Nick
Dr H
Hi Nick Nice to see you on here. The massive reduction in delivery has come as a surprise! I'll need to give the engine bloke a bit of a prod as I'd told him there was no rush. Might pop over and have a look at yours again if that's OK, to get my bearings so to speak. Although to be honest if I get time to do anything before March I'll be amazed. At least I'll have it for the longer and warmer spring/summer days which should make working on it easier. Need to find somewhere to put the chassis or the 340R when it arrives. What size van do you need to collect it? Cheers Leigh
Nick S1
What size van do you need to collect it? Bigger than the one I hired! I hired a Vauxhall Vivaro like this one and we couldn't get the chassis in.. https://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://petrolblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/Vauxhall-Vivaro-Panel-Van.jpg&imgrefurl=http://petrolblog.com/2011/07/real-world-review-vauxhall-vivaro-2900-lwb-panel-van/&h=200&w=300&tbnid=1a-Fz4uhxDge-M:&docid=w7Ji87Wvq16-sM&hl=en&ei=E5x5Vsy0MoPter_nl_AH&tbm=isch&ved=0ahUKEwiMirbukfDJAhWDth4KHb_zBX4QMwgsKAkwCQ Apparently the chassis will fit in the tall transit on its side, you'll need a hand to get it out as its damn heavy to pick up and walk with. Dr H
Hmmmm...might see if anyone has a trailer that could come with me and collect it.
Reg
Hmmmm...might see if anyone has a trailer that could come with me and collect it. My mate James has a trailer and a Defender. I'm sure he would help, he loves the Stratos! He's away doing the Monte Carlo rally sometime in January though, so would have to work around that. Dr H
Sounds like the perfect candidate. Doing the Monte Carlo is so very 'stratos'. When I have a collection date if I've sorted something I might see if he's willing to help. Cheers for offering on his behalf!
Reg
I'll mention it to him over the holiday, I'm sure he'll help. He's going to Monte with a Lancia Fulvia.
Dr H
Right - some actual progress to report, although a small step.Gearbox disassembled today over at HPE. Very happy to report it looks minty fresh inside. Oil a bit dirty but no evidence of any issues, all gears look fine, all syncros feel good. Amazing to say it's a 170k + mileage box.Numbers taken from some bearings to source replacements as it would be silly not to replace them, some races need a bit more persuasion to get them out and get the part numbers off them.Looks like the total costs will be about £150 - 200 ish for bearings and seals and not the £660 I was quoted by and Alfa specialist :noOrdering bearings, seals, a Q2 LSD http://www.ebspares.co.uk/parts/EB3/EB226.cfmand a Mtec short shifter mech http://www.short-shifters.com/c630-shift-for-alfa-romeo-fiat-lancia.html Dan will now blast and clean the casings, get all the bolts re-plated and put it all back together to make it as good as new. Will be April before the engine comes apart so no progress on that yet.Took lots of pictures but the SD card in my phone bummed after I left so no pics apart from these blurry ones of some gears and Dan trying to set fire to it. Reg
Leigh, tried to message you but you're not accepting messages! I've asked my mate James about picking the car up on his trailer, it's no problem! (Apart from he's away at the end of the month/beginning of next doing the Monte). Drop us a message and we'll get something sorted.

I'm away snowboarding on the 6th for a week so will be sometime after I return.

Dr H
Some of the difficult to find bearing arrived from France Yesterday and this morning I picked up this:Build trolley made to LB's Drawings by my local fabrication place. Wheels (I do have all 4) from ebay, think they are from a large industrial waste bin and will take a total of 800kg between the 4 of them.Chassis is now with the powder coaters in Nottingham and I'll be collecting it from LB with a lot of other stuff sometime in the last 2 weeks of Feb.
