KurtB
But half the fun of an S1 Exige is running an engine that sounds like a bag of spanners and might give up at a moments notice So true! Every journey starts with planning a route where I can pop into a mates for a brew, WHEN the inevitable happens. Mines only done 40k Jonny... Dr H
So true! Every journey starts with planning a route where I can pop into a mates for a brew, WHEN the inevitable happens. Mines only done 40k Jonny... It's the piston slap when cold and the grumpy idle that makes it sound dodgy. But you have to admit Kurt, when they are on song they sound ace! Martin R
When rebuilt properly there is a lot less piston slap when cold. I expect it gets worse as the mileage and wear on the sides of the pistons increases. The crap rod angle on a 1.8K does not help as well. Mine sounds a treat now
KurtB
Agreed Martin. Mines actually been tweaked by Scholar to Evo II spec, 1.9 with a theoretical 220bhp. It's lost a lot of its VHPDness...

Dennis
Hi q quick question, when cleaning the tub, you mention, tooth paste a dremel etc. Can you go in to more detail, I have tried the magic sponges and some very mild polish but some staining remains, toothpast may be the answer? Can you go through exactly how you cleaning it (step by step) Cheers Den
jonnyfox
Depends, the front was worse then the back Dennis. Colegate toothpaste and a toothbrush. Brake & clutch cleaner with a green scouring pad and toothbrush. Sponge & water Stanley blade window scraper. Colegate toothpaste and a green scouring followed by a toothbrush. Magic sponge and water. Repeat if necessary The green scouring pads were from a pack of three from Morrisons. Obviously try on an area you can't see first. Dremmel with a fine wire brush wheel on a low speed as a last resort. If you see any sign of a darker silver STOP.
