Jamie Triner
Hi there, As my thread said I've just brought my first Lotus and im thrilled with it. Well until I drove it home from the garage and found a few problems. I got a 3 months warranty with the car so im hoping that I can get these things fixed through that as there faults on the car. Ive tried to search for this problem and I can't seem to find any results. My immobiliser... I walk to the car get in put the key in and deactivate the immobiliser. Drive down the road and the red light on the rev counter comes on and flashes away at me. I then press the big button on the fob again and the green light comes up and turns off the red light from flashing. 5 mins later same again and again. My friend has the same car and his does not do this? At first i didn't know if i was doing anything wrong but im certain its failing? I didn't know if anyone could shed some light on this, if its a quick fix id gladly tinker about with it if its broken, or is this a case of me getting it wrong? I spoke to a guy at Lotus in Leicester and he told me to log on to this site as he said it was great for hints and tips. He said they usually rip the old one out for a new replacement but I didnt know if theres anything i could do to fix it myself.

daves2111s
Hi Jamie, Unfortunately I can't help on this one. Had a 2003 S2111s from new and never had this problem. For sure someone on MLOC will know the answer. Welcome to the fold and I'm sure you will enjoy it even with the odd teething problem;-)
P4N Lotus
How many times does it flash? Is it constant or certain amount of times, I think different number of flashes can indicate different faults. Might be loose connection, loose battery, flat or fault with battery , immobiliser issue , check batt, give the battery a full charge see if it sorts. Others will give there thoughts I had batt issues on my Elise111s in the past

Jamie Triner
Cheers for the information. I read a little on the internet and somebody said it could be a lose connection on the battery so I've tightened up that, still the annoying flash. The flash itself is just a constant 1 second on and off flash which is flashing most of the time now. Ill try and pop down my dads to see if he can hook the car battery up for a full charge and see how that goes. Aside from the little problems the cars great. My friend bought a Lotus as a weekend car, he took me out in it and I thought it was great. As he's got a bigger wallet than mine I've had to trade my Audi a4 in for it so jumping into the little Lotus has taken some getting used to as its my daily drive as well. Ive not really taken it out fully for a blast just small runs and can't wait till i get some time to do it. It is a fun car though and I've not regretted buying it even though i do feel like my ass is gonna catch the ground one day Cheers!
marky_p72
Hi, I had an electrical issue myself a few weeks ago + battery going flat etc. Disconnecting the battery for 2hrs cured it. Also got myself a battery charger/conditioner to keep it topped up. Good luck
Jamie Triner
Had the battery out of the car all day on trickle charge. Still no joy, its off back to the garage tomorrow. Im hoping it could be a fuse or something simple!
Dennis
Doesn't the owners manual describe how the alarm works and what the flashes mean? If not this may help http://www.geppe.net/elise/doc__tecnici/S2-Service-Manual.pdf
Dennis
Page 421 of the service notes. It may be the alarm/Imobilizer are no longer connected to the ignition system so the passive Imobilizer thinks the ignition is off so it arms itself, or so it thinks hence the blinking every 2 seconds. As a test, start the car, wait for it to start blinking, press the button to turn the 'imobilizer' off and press it again to try and arm the alarm, if the alarm does arm then bobs your mums brother (well it is a good chance that is what the issue is)
Numbnutz
As Dennis suggests, maybe the Immobiliser is no longer connected / immobilising - can you leave the car unlocked, with the keys out, and start it after say 5 mins without pressing the immobiliser button on the key fob? If so, it suggests that the immobiliser is no longer connected - if it won't crank until you press the immobiliser, then check the way it flashes. jonnyboy
Try rebinding the immobiliser. Take the key out press and hold the big button for about 10 seconds.
Jamie Triner
Cheers the advice, I did a few things from reading the online manual and I couldn't figure it out. Its now back to the place I bought it from having the wheels refurbed and the immobiliser fixed or replaced. So the next time I see it I can just relax and enjoy it!
