What Am I Going To Be Spending It All On?

Recommended Posts

I have a 2000(V) series 1 VVC Elise. Family owned since new, now has 54,000 miles on it.

I have some money put back to get some work done on it. But I have no idea what may need doing. I'm expecting bushes etc. I am taking my Elise to a local Lotus specialist. They are going to look over it and see what's occurring.

Recently I have replaced: exhaust, down pipe, cat, radiator, heater matrix, reverse switch, suspension upgrade, hurricane air intake, 160 throttle body.

What have your guys done on your series 1? What is the usual things to expect? Track rod ends? Steering rack? Etc etc....

If there is not much to do, what upgrades should I be thinking about!! I use the car as a daily drive. It's not used for any track days.

Cheers Ash

If its a daily driver, dont do it unless it needs it. I would be checking suspension bushes, ball joints, wheel bearings, track rod ends, arb bushes and drop links.

Most importantly of all rear tie bars. You do not want one of these to break, trust me. I would consider these are service item. Not many people ever check them. Its messy if they break. get them checked at least HTH

Yes and yes, rear toe link is the thing to check, i broke one 4/5 yrs ago and it s not fun at all.

I know check them every trackday and if there is a tiny bit of movement, i change them (even if the movement is considered acceptable)...

The wheel is free to point wherever it wants. The suspension on that corner collapses, basically, and if there is anything to hit nearby a crash will likely result.

I have heard the s1 design was weak but Lotus improved it for the s2?

Mine's a 2000 (W). Things I've replaced so far are:

1. Dampers (I'd be surprised if it's still on the original Konis, but you never know)

2. Rear toe links

3. Steering rack.

4. Fog light switch (the fog light would come on randomly, even if the switch was off).

That's it.

Oh - apart from fitting a PRT kit. I'd do that if it hasn't been done.

Not sure about that, toe link joint are the same on s1 and s2 however, lotus made the joint a serviceable item in the s2 service schedule which was not the case with the s1

Edit same for late s1 and s2 (steel carrier)

Got my Elise back today. Apart from a rear fog switch and a front wheel bearing I was told that mechanically my car is MINT! A full check of the car was done. So I'm pleased!! I'm now using my money to retrim the interior :)

      Evening all,
As per subject title, is anyone free for a couple of hours or so on the evening of Wednesday 4th July from around 18.00 to 20.00 (ish) ??
It is my daughters secondary “School Prom” and between her and her friends they have requested a small Lotus parade to take them from Wombourne to the Village Hotel in Dudley (What was Burnt Tree Island area).
Ideally we need an additional 4 cars - ideally Elises / Exige Roadsters as it’s going to be a lovely sunny Summers evening (👍☀️) and 5 roofless cars will allow easier access for what are likely to be big dresses and posh hairdos !
Initial plans are to get the girls and cars all together, have a few photos and then drive the 6 miles or so up to the Village Hotel. No doubt a few more photos and then go our separate ways.
I’m sure there will be some beer 🍺 tokens available to cover fuel etc.
Can anyone assist a group of teenagers who want something a little more original and probably a little noisier than the usual limo ???
Please drop me a line on here if you can assist so we can arrange details.
      Thanks in advance.
      Simon

      Hi guys
Apologies for the shameless plug, but thought some of you might be interested...
As well as being a proud owner of an S2 Elise, I'm also a graphic designer and have just put together a range of Elise/Exige t-shirts, inspired by the famous Colin Chapman quote: 'Simplify, then add lightness'.
They're available from www.mercht.com/u/kerm111t for a limited time (14 days from today) and come in a choice of five colours. Choose from the S2 Elise 111S, 111R or Exige (or all three if you're so inclined!)
I'd really appreciate it if you could spare the time to take a look, provide me with any feedback and (obviously) would appreciate it even more if you choose to purchase one! Would be fantastic to see a few being worn at next year's LiTP!
If you like them please feel free to spread the word within the Lotus community, or if there are any other designs you'd like to see just give me shout (thinking about adding the S1 Elise and V6 Exige at some point in the future).

      Thanks
      Rob

Pair of great condition used Tillet B5 seats in full carbon, not the carbon/fibreglass standard version. Full Seat pads, with side mounts on slimline runners.

These are over a grand each new on special order I believe.  Stock picture, but same seat, just bare carbon front and rear.

Can send photos if you need them, or update this if requested.

      Cheers
