Headlight Covers

5 posts in this topic

I've just completed the job of refurbishing the headlight covers on my S2 Elise. I used a dual action sander starting with 180 grit to remove the majority of the UV degradation in the plastic. Then using progressively finer and finer papers brought the plastic back to a point where it was polished with compound and a finishing wax. I was looking at £450.00 per side to replace the units but the results I managed to get for a couple of hours polishing are fantastic. Just wanted to let more people know about the treatment.

I did Elaine's plastic Jimny headlights, they were really opaque. I just used a dual action polisher with some fine cutting polish, took about 3 minutes per light. smile.png

180 grit? That's erm quite rough!

I did mine by hand using toothpaste. Very tedious but effective.Should imagine smokers or whitening varieties would be the best choice although I laboured on using standard with fluoride!
