What Would You Do With A Standard S1 K-Series

So, if you had sat on your drive a relatively standard S1 Elise with a 118bhp k-series how would you modify / update it?

It seems there are so many different paths to take now and many of us have been through trial and error of the years (I know I have!) what would you consider to be your ultimate spec for an S1?

VVC balanced engine with a ported head and 160 pistons. Should make a nice 175 ish. ( the sweet spot IMO ) Lighten as much as possible, harnesses, decent seats, better brakes and Nitron 1 ways. Then thrash as much as possible :)

A supercharged Honda conversion might tickle my fancy....and probably everything else to make it a trackday weapon. And like Martin, seats, sussy, wheels and tyres and add some lightness....;-)

Need I say....?!

If money is not tight a Honda S/C C/C will make it go a bit. Daft as it sounds it might be too fast? It depends what you want it for i suppose?

Im not sure it would be a good track car. capable yes but far faster than nearly anything else. Im unsure if you would get browned off with being held up.

I would be interested in Miles opinion? He has owned and / or driven just about all of them. Does extra speed equal more enjoyment? You also go a lot further when it goes pear shaped in a faster car? With my talent it has to come into the equation :)

Hummm. Change the seat bracket so you can sit in it, fit, a 1,4 kseries so i can be faster than you :P

More seriously, find a mgf engine and gear box (C4BP), put forged pistons which seem to become easier and cheaper to source, get the head ported and fit solid cam (newman ph3 for ex ), emerald, lightenen fly wheel.... Everything balanced

Ph3 or piper 1320 appears to be a good compromise between 633 and 285 as it gives more power without losing much on the bottom end...

Prrt and oil cooler are a good thing to keep to engine and your bank manager happy.

Then, the usual brake, suspension.

If you want bit k series power, supercharge the beats but think about it first has it needs piston swap...

Martin, miles was lapping combe in his E30 at the same sort of pace he did in the elise honda...

Bill, looking back at the times I'm afraid I was 3 secs a lap slower in the E30. It probably just felt as quick as the rear end wouldn't stay still! The T1R's weren't quite up to the job!

Martin, that's one of the reasons I asked the question. As after owning and/or driving so many different engines and set ups in an Elise I was trying to decide on my perfect spec and it was really difficult to pinpoint it as the perfect car for everything. The Honda has a special place in my heart and I think it will always be top of the list (in N/A form), I am not a fan of s/c etc but that's as much from a consumables point of view as it is from a driving perspective. I am half way through helping build a 350bhp Audi and I haven't driven one for a while so that will be good to try next year. The Duratec was nice but didn't leave me wanting more.

But after driving a k-series recently I'm growing a fondness for the lightweight torquey little motors and after recently driving a 165bhp car I was very impressed.

So for now I will refrain from pinpointing my ultimate spec and think about it some more........ :)

More than welcome to have a go in mine Miles when it's run in. Few suspension issues I'm trying to fathom, but, the donkey is well!!

DVA K13a Kit, 165 ish. Did 150 on a RR and 145 tdi tomatos. So 163 BHP according to tdi's 12.5% uplift to flywheel figure. So pretty bang on DVA figure.

What sort of money does this cost?

What was actually done?
