Jonathan E Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 I'm currently toying with the idea of selling my much loved S1. I've owned several Elise's over the years and while I think it's generally accepted that the S1 sport 160's and S2 135r's are probably the best Lotus factory produced cars for track work, its got me thinking about the best road focused Elise. I don't take my Car on track, so I would be interested to know other people's thoughts. Only restriction is 15k budget.
Martin R Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 S1 or S2 111s or if you fancy a Toyota 111r with the cam change point lowered.
G Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 I agree Jon S1 160 and S2 135 are probably amongst the best and desirable variants produced, but surely cracking road cars too? Could be worth taking a few cars for a test drive and see how you get on with the Toyota engine, if you haven't had one before? Good budget will get you a nice car.
Elaine Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 Our lowered cam change S2 Exige was fine for every day use (as was my VX220)................... but not when I worked on the farm!
DeanB Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 I agree with Martin. Actually, no I don't, not completely. Thinking about it, the best Elise for road use would be the one the f**k*ng radio works in!! If there is such a thing. You want the short roof s2 as well. Easily take-off-and-on-able. So s2 111s then, in my book.
un1eash Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 I went for the S2 111S as i found it best for my every day needs.
Numbnutz Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 I went for the S2 111S but was frustrated at its lack of speed, as it approached national speed limit ... and S3's, suburas and evo's having the edge. I ended up putting a honda in my S2 and love it, but if yu are keeping things reasonably standard, then the Toyota NA or SC exige with a lowered cam must be worth a look and a drive. These have ABS too, although they are a bit heavier in the rear, they are still very quick as a road car, and on track! I'm just not sure what you may find around £15k
Chris_edeson Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 Scatty is selling his exige n/a http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/lotus/exige-s2/lotus-exige-16v-touring-2004/1423440 Just over your budget but worth it!!
DeanB Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 SCATTY! Wtf?!? You're not leaving us are you? Say it aint so!
scatty Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 maybe. i think it might be time to sell and get an "s" or a similar spec to mark.. ive even entertained a high powered evo, but i keep looking at mine and thinking the exige is way to pretty to leave altogether.... somethings missing and i think its called a whine..... and i dont mean mrs scatty either..... I've contemplated keeping mine and getting the komotec put on, but after good advice from fellow members, I think it's best to sell and get a newer model.....
russelld Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/lotus/elise-s2/lotus-elise-111r--touring-pack--a-c--low-miles--full-history/1333374 It should have a DAB radio too !! & one for Scatty : http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/lotus/exige-s2/lotus-exige-s-sport-touring-acu-220-bhp-17-000-mls/1426505
richbk Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 hey jon long time no here from you, does that mean you arent driving the car? do you want to sell because you dont like yours any more or because you aint got time to drive it? i ask because if its the former, then iirc you had a 111r previously, so know all about the yota mota and the extra pace, but also the difference in character/power delivery etc. if its the latter ill be surprised if spending more cash will get yuo out driving much more, as its the time thats the issue not the car? and tying more money up in something else doesnt make sense tbh? as for which car......an exige might re-light yuor lotus fires, but cost is prohibitive as all models seem to be holding price well at the mo. speak soon richbk p.s your still too young for an evora scatty, i looked at sc mine, but decided on similar cost / re-sale grounds and tbh unless you go to 260 bhp i dont think in real world driving theres much difference, you just have to work a bit harder with the n/a.
