Taking STMBOs Blue Type 49 there on Sunday at about 10.30 ish if anyone is driving by & fancies a chat. First signs of the dreaded hgf. Hope they stay as 'first signs' on the drive down there. Looking forward to meeting Gav - he told he not to get there too early as he's out on the lash on Saturday - great minds etc....

How did you get on?

I have exhausted gav's ideas for things i can check / try on mine and it is still doing some strange things in terms of temp and coolant. Spoke to him today and he suggested its time to take it down for him to have a look. So busy he cant fit me in until a week on saturday! I'm not expecting to see huge progress on that beach buggy!

I drove it down last Sunday Chris & he expects it should be ready by this weekend. He seems to be booked up for 10 days ish as that's how long I had to wait. Have you been before as finding it was a bit tricky - it wasn't until my 2nd pass of his Unit, that I figured the young lad carrying his son and waving from the roadside must be him. Seems like a really genuine decent chap and was good enough to drop me at the train station. It was an altogether much more pleasant experience than my local specialist, who's lack of interpersonal skills and prices persuaded me to try Gav in the first place. That and all the MLOC recommendations.

Looking forward to the drive back up the A6 already. I'll keep you posted.

What's your problem with Temp & Coolant - is there a post on MLOC somewhere?

Look for the unit that sells bearings with the red and yellow signs, by the side of the main road just after the mini roundabout. If you are approaching from the north. Easy.

Or alternatively look for the kwakker green exige. ;)

Brendan it's at Burton on Trent and yes it is. It's a one man operation and Gav the proprietor was the mechanic at Peter Smith sportscars before they closed. He is very good. Lots of people on here use him, including me.

Thanks Dean,

B-O-T (my birth town!) is much closer (I am in Biddulph now) than the independent place up north I have used. So I will give them a try. Still sad about Pete Smiths. Remember Nimrod?

Im going to pick mine up tomorrow. Hes done a fantastic job. Cant recommend him enough.

Ditto me today. £666 (and a few bottles of Becks) for head gasket replacement by a really top bloke, compared to over twice that dealing with my brusque over priced local specialist. The blast down the A38 makes the trip even more worth while.

Who is the local Sheffield specialist?

Near devonshire green???

Sounds like Swifts. They used to work on my Audi (abut 10 years ago) and I saw they had got into Elises after I left Sheffield (8 years ago)

Still run by Dave Underwood? He's does have a bit of an attitude. A couple of years ago I was going down the M1 and someone towing an Elise on a trailer was driving like a complete knob. Swerving in and out, undertaking, going in the outside lane etc. As they went past (at about 90) I recognised the driver as Dave Underwood. Don't know if was a customer's car but I'd have been f**king livid if I'd seen him doing that with my car.
