Stik Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 So after having had my Exige a few days now and put around 300mi on it, i've started to notice the little things and have some questions: After unlocking the car, getting in and sticking the key in there's a series of about 5 or 6 beeps - do these mean something or is it just happy to see me? My speedo doesn't move entirely smoothly, it seems to move in about 5mph increments (i quite like this, but is it normal?) With the (electric) windows all the way down there's a noticeable metallic clanking noise from inside the doors when going over bumps. If i leave the windows about an inch above fully down then it's fine I appear to have foglights on the front - how on earth do i turn them on? I assumed they come on with the rear fogs, but that's not the case and i can't find any more switches How far away will your blipper work? I have to be about 2meters from the car. Every other car i've had seems to work from the other side of carparks Mine has an ipod connector hanging out of the little shelf thing under the dash, is that a standard cable and is there any way to turn it into a normal 3.5mm jack? I don't have, nor will i ever have, an i-product Thanks!
Addz Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 My front fogs only come on with main beam, dunno if they all do that though... Err other than that I dunno mine does strange things but none of the above!
Wild Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 Windows shouldn't rattle like that. Are you sure they're not driving lamps, which will only come on with main-beam The blipper for mine will only work within a few inches of the car too. Not sure on the other bits, though I'm sure somebody else will be along in a minute.
John FISH Curtis Posted April 23, 2013 Posted April 23, 2013 (1) Some STACK displays click before the engine starts, Im pretty sure someone told me its normal. (2) Not normal... needs looking at (3) Not normal, sounds like they need adjusting. Check out TekWiki on SELOC or make a visit to Gav at Unit4 to get it sorted. (4) They are not fog lights, they are driving lights. Flash your main beam, they should come on. (5) Blipper is just for the alarm and is intended to be used in close proximity to the car. It is not a "normal" car blibber used on modern cars to unlock the doors etc. (6) Depends on the stereo fitted. The cable plugs into the back of the stereo, so you should be able to remove/replace it by removing the head unit (easy job).
kayj_prod Posted April 23, 2013 Posted April 23, 2013 Ref the iPod connection: chances are this is plugged into the back of your head unit directly, or perhaps via another interface. (No way of knowing without knowing what the HU is.) Either way, there are few head units which don't allow some kind of auxiliary input i.e. from a 3.5mm jack or for a hands free kit. Just need the right cable/interface. My Alpine HU in Elsie just has a direct cable to iPod, but I could have as easily purchased a different cable to go to 3.5mm jack.
Stik Posted April 23, 2013 Author Posted April 23, 2013 Thanks for the replies guys, i'll have a poke at the connector a bit more. Is removing the HU fairly easy to do? I seem to recall you need a silly tool of some sort on some cars to get down the side and release some catches. As far as i can tell the cable vanishes into the far left of the dash, so i can imagine it'll be a pain to get out (i never did manage to successfully get the dash off my VX220 to fiddle with some wiring!)
kayj_prod Posted April 23, 2013 Posted April 23, 2013 Might be worth seeing if you have the radio manual first to check what cable you need to replace the iPod connector with. That way you've only got to scrape your arms up on the underside of the dash once. The tool needed to remove the HU will depend on the HU. I seem to recall Halfrauds do a kit for removing different types of HU if you can't borrow the right tool from someone.
John FISH Curtis Posted April 23, 2013 Posted April 23, 2013 I can remove your head unit, I have a selection of tools (used to fit car hifi) but you need to get to NG17 7HB this Sunday.
Martin R Posted April 23, 2013 Posted April 23, 2013 Whats electric windows and iPod ??? Indeed and whats a radio?
M@r]{ Posted April 24, 2013 Posted April 24, 2013 What head unit do you have Damien? I've got a few various radio removal tools here. Definitely got some Clarion ones, then Pioneer and Alpine I think? I swapped my Clarion for an Alpine a few weeks back, it's got an iPod lead on it that I had to route through As been mentioned though don't know why I bothered, when you're on it the radio is pointless Electric Windows?!?!? That's like driving around with a fat chick in the car
un1eash Posted April 24, 2013 Posted April 24, 2013 Only my passenger side window rattles when fully down. You may look silly but i hold the keyfob to my head to lock/unlock as it gives it more range as i always start walking away without locking the car.
John FISH Curtis Posted April 24, 2013 Posted April 24, 2013 Cheap fix....... Don't let the passenger put the window down !

I'll give it a go (when nobody is watching...) {' timestamp='1366789558' post='247423']What head unit do you have Damien? I've got a few various radio removal tools here. That's like driving around with a fat chick in the car Haha, i think they're brilliant, particularly the passenger side one, leaning across and winding it in traffic (even with my long arms) was always a pain in the VX, particularly considering how stiff they always were. Yeah the radio is a bit pointless most of the time, but it's nice to have when you're bumbling along the motorway for 3 hours. Also, i wouldn't want anyone to sit in the car and think that i owned an i-something I'll check what HU it is when i go out at lunchtime, if you're around this weekend and the weather's nice i might come over for an hour and we can go for a drive/fiddle with stereos? EDIT: Also, the dealer has explained the beeping when i first get in - it's the seatbelt, seems as though if you don't put your seatbelt on when you turn the key it beeps 5 times. I don't know about everyone else but i tend to get in, start engine, faff around with my phone and red bull, and then put my seatbelt on before finally driving off. Apparently this is not the order in which Lotus believe i should be doing things
