Phil S1 Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 I would get the lotus specific ones, that's what I have and they fit perfectly. One issue if you plan to remove the seatbelts you should go for the red button. Apparently you need it a button to pass the mot. if you have the belts as well you can go for a turn buckle. I removed my inertia belts and fitted the Willans turn buckle belts, wasn't aware of the red button issue and got through the last MOT without problem.
AndyInTwitch Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 Hi, I've been going through the same research to get a set of harnesses for my S1 Elise with standard seats. As my seats don't have appropriate holes the belts will need to drape over them and the suggestion is to buy a wrap around harness bar and cross the shoulder straps over. it seems though they would just fall away and possibly behind the seat which would be annoying for quick usage (upside: good to hide and continue with standard belt). Has anyone used the wrap around type and does it work well, could imagine the attachment to the harness bar sliding side to side... Andy
scatty Posted April 9, 2013 Posted April 9, 2013 I've got a bolt in bar... I think a wrap around with standard seats, the harnesses would deffo slide around....
Alex B Posted April 9, 2013 Author Posted April 9, 2013 after a brief chat with Gav regards fitting help ill be ordering Elise parts luke harnesses.
Numbnutz Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 I looked into this some time back. If you have normal seats without the slots, I concluded it was safer to use the normal seat belt. This is because the harnesses should sit tight on your shoulders, (with the inside shoulder belt very slightly looser - so you dont bump heads when it goes wrong). The normal Elise seats don't work with harnesses and if you cal MSAR to discuss they would probably recommend you don't don't buy harnesses, rather than sell you something. If you really must fit a harness bar with normal seats, that do not have the harness slots already - then you should buy the bolt in type bar, fitted with the holes pointing down IMO, with the belts wrapping behind and over the top of the bar. The reason that harnesses don't work with normal Elise seats is that you can fall out of the harness, in that you slide down and forward, and your shoulders can fall out from that point. With the correct holes in the seat, the harnesses are lots closer or on your shoulders. Needless to say - I'm not installing harnesses until I have the Probax Motorsport seats - that do look very nice too.
