Ian C
I'm planning a suspension upgrade on my Exige. I'm looking at the Nitron 46 race pros, probably the track day version. Does anyone here run the Nitrons? Or is there anything else you can recommend? I use the car at weekends and at track days. Also, what about setup? Would like to get geo etc done at same time. Any recommendations for places to get a good setup?
jonnyfox
JSRacing Dudley, John is nothing short of Lotus Gold. 46mm Ohlins, JSRacing Spec are the best money can buy. I can say that because the are :-)
Ian C
Thanks Jonny. What sort of money are we talking?
DeanB
Do you know what, I have absolutely no idea if nitron dampers are better than ohlins or vice versa. How would you know unless you were an engineer, or had back to back tested similarly valved examples running identical spring rates etc.? I reckon you would be fine with either make. A more difficult choice might be spring rates and valving. I would try and find a specialist who really knows his stuff, has experience of building and running race cars and seems honest, and just take his advice. Jonny appears to have done exactly that and it has clearly worked out well for him. I think the whole process is really exciting. You get to set your car up exactly as you want it. No compromise. A bit like a bespoke suit. You tell your tailor what you want, and he makes it happen.
jonnyfox
John Shorrocks really is worth his weight in gold. If you factory upgrade your Ducatti or Lotus Dampers it's going to get Ohlins.... If you buy an Aventadore is comes with Ohlins. I could go on lol. Ian give John a call, there are expensive but they are truly incredible mate and retain there value. chris_h
I've been really happy with my 1 way nitrons (chris randall from hoffmans spec and geo). back to back with the orignal lotus standard suspension took 1.5 seconds off my laptime at curborough and that is a tiny track. Mine are partcually stiff but they are stiff very good on bumpy b roads and fantastic on track.
jonnyfox
Having said that Nitron 46mm are getting rave reviews across on Exiges with Pete757 just fitting them to his S1. My spring rates are 450/550, I dont like it too stiff . Mine are also two way, but one way is the best compromise for both road and track I guess. If you do look at Nitrons speak with Dave at Seriously Lotus he's a good man, if it's Ohlins then John at JSRacing. Either or you'll be in safe hands and will be better than what you have got. a7esk
Good place to buy would be the Lotus show at Donnington 20/21 April
Ian C
So as far as choices go we have JS Racing and Hoffmans. Any other suggestions of places in the Midlands to get the suspension fitted and geo done?
russelld
http://www.p9raceshop.com/ Dean Forward at Race shop is very good he has worked on my car a couple of times. Also worth a try is Tollbar racing http://www.tollbarracing.co.uk/ Or Steve Guglielmi http://www.guglielmimotorsport.co.uk/ Steve knows more about Lotus'

Numbnutz
I'd be very interested in what you and any others decide to do and how you rate them. 46mm Shocks are next on my upgrade list. I've not decided on budget yet, but my SC project is moving well, so Ohlins may be out of reach if I plan to do both this summer. I've fully adjustable Ohlins on my Aprillia, and I'm embarassed to say I've never adjusted them (shuffles his feet and looks away) - so maybe 2 way Ohlins will be wasted on me. Fit, setup and forget - thats me. Any reports on Hoffmans setups & Geo's? (Only thing that puts me off his setup and geo, is that the ride seems quite hard.) What about other valving/geo's? For me, a good setup that suits road, track, wet and dry prefered.
