Steve J Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 Make sure whoever fixes a HGF on the K series knows what they are doing. It's not just a case of swapping gaskets. Plastic dowels (if yours has them) need replacing with metal. Head should be hardness tested. Porosity can be fixed by peening and skimming if not too bad. Liners need to be 4 thou proud of the block. Etc May be worth changing the waterpump too at the same time. There's a more comprehensive list on here somewhere or ask Martin R who has previous in this regard
olliecast Posted January 28, 2013 Author Posted January 28, 2013 gone again after a trip to ansty! :/
Martin R Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 If you get it repaired properly it should not go again. Its also a good time for a bit of porting work Edit, just read your post on SELOC. When you said gone again, i thought you meant the head gasket? I now realise you mean the Mayo? Thats good news just keep your eyes on it.
Numbnutz Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 Honda k20? Brilliant engine, I had a type r ep3 prior to the elise. Spoke to CN will find out in the next couple of hours when its getting collected. Ask with regards to process and he said they do hardness tests etc The car managed 42500miles and 9 n a bit years on the original head gasket. So not too bad. Hi Alex, yes a K20A2, a Tubular GT3 H2, a K&N air filter and a KPRO. Good fun, but a bit noisy on the Vtec. How is your car? Heard anything, or got it back yet?
Alex B Posted January 28, 2013 Posted January 28, 2013 Picked it up saturday. Had a run out on Sunday and bumped into 6 or 7 other elises/exiges. Everything seems fine at the moment. Touch wood*
jimbo07g41 Posted January 29, 2013 Posted January 29, 2013 I might be wrong but when the coolant goes into the oil, it tends to be in a big way. I was lucky enough to be not too far behind a S1 Exige pulling away from a junction. Ohhh the noise! I had a good read of all the k series stories and was very afraid. But lets get it in to perspective. £700-£800 to get it done proper and then I have not heard of many going again. I have done 40k and four Euro trips in a K series car, consider warranty and breakdown cover, if your really worried but just drive.
