It seems a bit cheap compared to the others out there. but i do want an open system for noise
the DustRoom Posted November 7, 2012 Posted November 7, 2012 Looks nasty to me - get a Hurricane or ITG Maxogen as they're widely regarded as the best; give a great sound as well as being functional. With the limited space and rear engine layout an open system is just going to suck in hot air and reduce power.

Thanks mate, I think this is one of those you get what pay for. if it costs £100 less than the rest its for a reason. I have just ordered a hurricane from Elise shop:) so decat, induction kit should be done by the end of next week. tyres the week after then i will have to remap it shortly after so it does not run lean. unless the ECU is clever enough to adjust the fuelling??
the DustRoom Posted November 7, 2012 Posted November 7, 2012 The ECU is supposed to adapt as far as I know and I'm not sure it can be remapped anyway - I was under the impression that an Emerald ECU was required for anything other than standard (thought I could be wrong) and those with Emerald ECUs tend to have done a boat load of tuning. My post might be a bit "K-Series" as I don't have a Yota so haven't explored them so much.

I dont know if they can be remapped either. but i know Hangar offer a service to tune/map the standard ECU. which is the option i will take in the summer if the standard ECU will adjust to the mods i am doing .
Steve J Posted November 8, 2012 Posted November 8, 2012 IIRC they have been cracked now and a few tuners are offering remaps .
Harmy2010 Posted November 8, 2012 Author Posted November 8, 2012 IIRC they have been cracked now and a few tuners are offering remaps . Mr J! Please elaborate further, which tuners:) I am going to ask a stupid question now(i am abit of a hypochondriac when it comes to engine noises) do all the Toyo S2's sound abit like a sewing machine on light throttle? I getting the feeling i will see a piston flying through the air the noise is not loud i can just hear it, and a sewing machine is the best way to describe it. Taking it down to JSR on saturday to give the car a once over for peace of mind anyway.
jonnyfox Posted November 8, 2012 Posted November 8, 2012 There are a few aftermarket options available now to replace the ECU with the likes of SSC, Syvecs and Elise parts but I wasn't aware anyone but Essex using the CharlieX software have unlocked the OEM ECU. I could be wrong dunno, that's news to me. Hanger111 and a few others can lower the cam change, a no brainer on an NA but they cannot remap your ECU last time I checked although I'm aware of the GT Spec reflashes you are talking about. The ECU will learn but I always believe a proper mapping session is well worth it if not just to be sure. I also believe that we NA types can make our cars more responsive but I don't believe we add hardly anything maybe 3bhp if that no matter what type of map or flash we go for. I've been on a rolling road with the GT Spec flash, ITG and a full Shitsilver system and I've been mapped using a full 2Bular system and the ITG, both came to the same out come although Essex did express concern my car was running a little lean. I don't know could be one vs other but it stands or stood that only they can map it because only they use the CharlieX software. May as well add My ECU, Manifold, Decat and 8"GT3 are in the for sale section on here as of today and on various other sites lol, would save you loads of money not to mention selling your own ECU on. What I'm changing to will add more power :-)

Taking it down to JSR on saturday to give the car a once over for peace of mind anyway. Check out my 3rd post in this thread. All details are there, hanger and EA can now crack you ECU for you, from mild lowered cam change to full blown upgrade. You would need injectors, fuel pump etc for more power. Regarding noise on idle, yep TADTS. Sounds like a sewing machine because there is no sound proofing around the engine unlike a normal car. Just make sure you keep the oil level up, my yota engine barely uses any oil at all, but I always check pre and post trackdays. JSR Are the business, and a good idea to have the car fully health checked. Car looks great!!!
Harmy2010 Posted November 8, 2012 Author Posted November 8, 2012 Sorry mate I missed your info regarding the remaps! I figured it was just a lack of sound proofing that is making me notice the little noises from the engine bay.
rocketian Posted November 8, 2012 Posted November 8, 2012 A na S2 exige will be fine in the winter. As will AO48s or R888s just keep away from snow ice and standing water.Salted roads aren't too kind to the ali and wishbones etc but keeping it clean will help. Best if you have a garage though. Wouldn't want to keep a Lotus outside. Welcome to MLOC. Mine lives outside - had it 4 years and the previous one 3 years - no problems at all - secret seems to be use it every day and treat it rough, - just like a woman.
jonnyfox Posted November 8, 2012 Posted November 8, 2012 Sorry G can you confirm Hanger111 have unlocked the ECU and can fully map it, I was under the impression that part of the driving force behind these aftermarket ECUs was to make a mappable alternative. Also your comment on injectors and fuel pump it quite wrong mate ;-) But very correct about JSRACING, he's the dogs.
scatty Posted November 8, 2012 Posted November 8, 2012 yep mine sounds like that too mr harmy..ha ha, you can tell you used to have a jap car. i too am paranoid at every new noise i hear. in fact on start up, all you can hear is that sewing machine noise, as my 2bular exhaust is quieter than a mouse.... im sure you will feel better after its had the once over....

Yep having a jap car tunes the senses although my Evo never had a problem I cant imagine your 2bular is quieter than my standard exhaust need it decatting ASAP There are a few aftermarket options available now to replace the ECU with the likes of SSC, Syvecs and Elise parts but I wasn't aware anyone but Essex using the CharlieX software have unlocked the OEM ECU. jonnyfox Posted November 8, 2012 Posted November 8, 2012 There are 3 types of Lotus exhaust, they are all pretty poor but the Stage 2 is crapper still and stupidly loud. Jim at 2Bular is hugely passionate about what he does, meeting requirement for individuals like me in my current project based on a K20 big bore or those who track day a lot (like me) and need to meet noise regs at places like Donny's 98db drive by. S/C car particularly suffer here with decat and induction but not NA. What Scatty says is very true, if you want loud he'll make it that way, but if you want sensible it comes as standard. I've just PM'd back, please feel free to ask questions. Selling my kit is a side issue, it'll go simple as. I just want to give you the correct info as I'm passionate about the NA 2zz. I am not trying to (as Frank would say and that's another story) bullshit you. NA Rocks :-)
