chrislane Posted September 19, 2012 Posted September 19, 2012 I've always been a bit against the idea of a cars which only get used on high days and holidays. Unless i had a lengthy commute i always thought i'd want to drive my pride and joy every day whatever the weather. Surely it would be a waste in having it and not driving it at every opportunity. However......... Imprending family addition has meant that something more practical was required so for the last month the elise has become a bit of a garage queen. And the end result? My goodness does it feel special when i do go out in it. I think the 5 miles crawling in traffic, leaky roof and piss poor radio reception were subconsiously having an impact, and for the last few weeks i've been longing for the weekend so i can go out for a blast in search of some quiet country roads. We'll see whether that continues when No.2 arrives!!!!!!!
Martin R Posted September 19, 2012 Posted September 19, 2012 It does make them special. I used my S1 in any weather until the day it snowed. It was impossible to get it up a gradual slope on the way to work in any gear. R888 did not help. The misting when it rained also became a pain at 5.30 on a winters morning.
kayj_prod Posted September 20, 2012 Posted September 20, 2012 Mine only gets used on special occasions, Chris. It does make it feel so much more special when I get the time to just go and drive for the sake of it. I can't imagine how screwed my hearing would be now if I drove it every day too! I had a trip down to London and back on Saturday and I might as well have been on stage for the same amount of time.
stockhome Posted September 20, 2012 Posted September 20, 2012 Mine is a bit of a garage queen and from my expedience it its worse the more kids you have. I only seem to drive mine at weekends and when the sun is shinning. But it does make it more of event when you do
Chris_edeson Posted September 20, 2012 Posted September 20, 2012 Chris, dont give up the everyday drive!! i love mine just as much its my only car and used 365 days a year including commutes from leicester to leeds and to newcastle!!!! :-) still feels just as special when i take her out to play on the weekend and on track!
scatty Posted September 20, 2012 Posted September 20, 2012 I'm too tight to buy a second everyday car. The thought of paying 2 lots of road tax and insurance would fill me with dread, not to mention the embarrassment of cruising the mean streets of Nottingham in a micra!!!!!
Guest Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 I have to admit mine is a garage queen, Scatty on the other hand would look a complete queen if he owned a micra... but how funny that would be! So Chris, are you now keeping your toy? I seem to remember you were thinking you might have to dispose of it whence the little one arrived?
andywolf Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 I have had to buy a regular car recently as the 400 mile trip tues- thursdays was costing £600 pm and that was too much to pay whilst I was traveling to Greenwich and back. A 2.0tdi golf fits the bill nicely. I still work locally on mon and fridays and I agree, the elise feels stunning. I drive it all the time at the weekend and until I move in a few weeks I have no garage, and this will mean that over the winter it may well have a home. I do miss it during the week and I am sure shell in streetly and shooters hill road miss me!
chrislane Posted September 21, 2012 Author Posted September 21, 2012 So Chris, are you now keeping your toy? I seem to remember you were thinking you might have to dispose of it whence the little one arrived? I've managed to convince Mrs L that it makes better financial sense to sell it in the spring, which gives me another 6 months to enjoy it a bit longer :-)
scatty Posted September 21, 2012 Posted September 21, 2012 Don't tell her it's spring 2015 just yet either!!!!
chrislane Posted September 21, 2012 Author Posted September 21, 2012 I think she already suspects thats my plan to be honest!
DeanB Posted September 22, 2012 Posted September 22, 2012 Chris don't sell! You only need one sensible car per family even when you have kids. You can't be in both cars at the same time! Plus the kids will love the Elise - I have just been out in mine with my 3 year old boy who loved it. Roof off, stereo loud, shades on (both of us) and he turned to me and said "I love daddy days daddy". You wont get that in a Megane Scenic. And your Elise will hold it's money. And it will be there for you when you need a bit of bloke time to keep you sane. And the Missus can use it to pose about in with her mates on nice days
Eric Posted September 22, 2012 Posted September 22, 2012 I get out in mine every weekend and it still feels every bit as special as the first. Only did a 70 miler today but the weather was absolutely perfect for a full monty wash and detailing session when I got back. Only took me 4 hours!! I'm averaging 5000 miles a year in this one and absolutely loving it.
lummo Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 I'm too tight to buy a second everyday car. The thought of paying 2 lots of road tax and insurance would fill me with dread, not to mention the embarrassment of cruising the mean streets of Nottingham in a micra!!!!! I convinced my missus that I could run a Corsa for weekdays and an Elise for the weekend for about the same money (tax, insurance, fuel) as I was currently paying to run a Jag every day. The only problem is that we then went & sold her car and kept the Jag - whoops!
