O2/lambda Sensor Question

I'm looking at fitting a 4-2-1 manifold to my standard s1, the O2/Lambda sensor is in a completely different place.

Do I need to by a longer O2/Lambda sensor or can I still use the old one as its in a completely different place?

 

I have also included some images of the manifold I do not know who made it but it is stainless apart from the Lambda sensor mount.

From the photos I can't see where your Lambda sensor fits but if it's like my Larini and it's near the 3 bolt flange then you'll probably be okay. You'll have to revise where the cable runs and I ended up making an additional little bracket on mine to secure the cable away from the driveshaft. So in theory I don't think you'll need a new one BUT having said that I couldn't get the sensor out from my old manifold at the time so ended up buying a new one anyway! If you've got the proper tool to remove it (which I didn't) then you should be okay.

I didn't lengthen mine until I changed the loom but as Phil says its as tight as a mouse's ear till you re route it

Cheers mate I live in Ruddinghton, I shall be doing the manifold when I get chance to have the clams off for a refresh of paint! (Helps when your pops is a paint man!) I would love to do it asap but I also have an 8 month old son so dont want to upset the apple cart at this point with lots of time on the elise!... The manifold has slip joints so I am going to get some lugs welded on and fit springs to each pipe to make sure of seating.

After alot of reading people seem to say unless you are doing other engine mods the power gain is not worth the effort?.. I cant see how it cant make it more responsive at least.

I've got an else parts slip joint and its fine with no leaking. Engine is relatively solid though with the solid lower mount.

I did mine is less than a day. Welcome to give you a hand if you want mate

Thanks Ollie for the offer of help mate, Im going to wait until I have both clams off, then I can do other bits and bobs at the same time. I may call upon your expertise when I do get around to it though! Im imaging plenty of Tea and biscuits get consumed during the change over!
