Acehole Posted September 16, 2012 Posted September 16, 2012 Hello again, induction all sorted now car is ticking over nicely, thanks for all the replies. However new/newish problem, noticed over the last few weeks some gunk in the water bottle and i am starting to use some water, no gunk on the dip stick or in the oil? Any ideas as to the fault or impending failure. Who would be the most local to me in Nottingham to drive it to for an inspection? Any recommendations appreciated. Thanks Acehole
stockhome Posted September 16, 2012 Posted September 16, 2012 Sounds like a possible HGF Unit 4 is in Burton
olliecast Posted September 17, 2012 Posted September 17, 2012 As above, potentially hgf. Could get a sniffer test done. Can you post a pic?
Acehole Posted September 17, 2012 Author Posted September 17, 2012 could possibly post a pic tonight, easy to describe though, as above, mayo looking type gunge in the bottle, water that is in there is not oily at all and both the dip stick and inside oil filler cap etc still spotless? maybe me being optomistic about hgf but could it be anything else? will try and get it booked into unit 4 for an inspection. Acehole.
Acehole Posted September 17, 2012 Author Posted September 17, 2012 Well sent an e mail to unit4, hopefully will get a reply and gav can have a look at the car for me and hopefully diagnose/fix the problem Should the worst come to the worst and it is HGF what upgrades are available for a s2 111s ? more in the engine bay than exhaust, I have just put an hurricane induction on. DJWilma Posted September 17, 2012 Posted September 17, 2012 Not really much to do on a vvc engine with the existing vvc mechs a piper exhaust cam does help then a little but the main benefit would be porting the head. Should see just over 170bhp but a nice amount of torque. The main issue is the vvc mechs dont like to be revved so it limits power. Anything more powerwise and it's solid cams and how deep your wallet is
John FISH Curtis Posted September 17, 2012 Posted September 17, 2012 Well sent an e mail to unit4, hopefully will get a reply and gav can have a look at the car for me and hopefully diagnose/fix the problem Don't e-mail Gav, call him!!!!!
Acehole Posted September 18, 2012 Author Posted September 18, 2012 Hello, Made the call to gavin, seems like a nice bloke on the phone. Dropping car off monday morning, ready for the bad news. Acehole
lummo Posted September 18, 2012 Posted September 18, 2012 Dropping car off monday morning, ready for the bad news. I've got gunk in my expansion tank also. Had pressure test & sniffer test done - didn't find anything. Car's running fine. It's been like this for about 2 years now, so don't despair just yet!
Mutley00 Posted September 19, 2012 Posted September 19, 2012 When I had my Elan Sprint, it had a breather pipe from the crank case that went into the airbox that covered the carbs. Condensation continually gathered in the crank case and when it was pulverised with oil, a constant supply of 'mayo' used to trickle into the airbox and in bad cases entered the carbs. Now my knowledge of Elise engines is nothing like that of the Lotus Twin Cam, but my Elise has had mayo in the header tank for about a year with no rough running (& an HGF failure test found nothing) so I'm hoping that as I dont think there is a breather pipe from an Elise Engine, its just a bit of condensation thats accumulating from the crank case. As I said I know very little about the Rover engine, so if those in the know think I'm talking b******s please say so and I'll withdraw the post and remiss about when engines were far simpler to explain and repair!
longbelly Posted September 28, 2012 Posted September 28, 2012 I had the same in my S2 111S, had the system flushed and compression test etc, no HGF and no more gunk....
Acehole Posted September 28, 2012 Author Posted September 28, 2012 Hello, Took the car to unit4 on Monday of this week, leak in the head gasket, hoped to have car back today, However after rebuild still leaking water.
