soya67 Posted September 13, 2012 Posted September 13, 2012 Hi All After years of dreaming i have now got my S2 Elise 111s (04). I bought it with blown engine so i have a bit of a project on. I want to replace like for like and welcome any advice on where to get and what to look out for. I am aware of the overheating and was told i needed a 'coil pack' engine. I thought that basically all K's were the same but now not sure. Any advice or tips welcome.
Martin R Posted September 13, 2012 Posted September 13, 2012 Welcome to MLOC. Give these people a ring http://www.esmotorsport.co.uk/elise-spares Explain what you want. They may well be able to help.
Martin R Posted September 13, 2012 Posted September 13, 2012 No problem let us know how you get on. I think its the EU3 engine you want. On the EU2 the coil packs are bolted to the front of the engine. On yours i suspect they are on top of the spark plugs. They will know anyway.
DJWilma Posted September 14, 2012 Posted September 14, 2012 The engine is identical to the eu3 engine fitted to the MGTF 160 and ZR 160 difference being the ecu These sell for around 350 on the second hand market. Shame really as I just sold my 111s engine to a man in Holland
Dazzx10r Posted September 14, 2012 Posted September 14, 2012 Any good? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MG-ZR-TF-160-VVC-K-SERIES-1-8-ENGINE-59-000-2000-2006-/230840278868?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&fits=Car+Make%3AMG|Cars+Type%3A160&hash=item35bf271f54
jimbo07g41 Posted September 17, 2012 Posted September 17, 2012 I would suggest you either buy one with a gurantee or buy one out of a car that you can actualy hear running. You do want an EU3 and best to go for one out of a TF. This engine will bolt straight in. When you say your engine is blown, can you see damage to the block? i wouldnt buy the one above as It sounds like it has a top end problem that could be expensive to sort.
soya67 Posted September 19, 2012 Author Posted September 19, 2012 Hi All Thanks for the good advice. Eventually decided to go with Dazzx10r recommendation, not that exact engine but that company, as said by Jimbo I wanted to see it run if private but CWV offer money back within 7 days or replacement within 30 days. They were a decent couple of lads located in Doncaster, threw in a couple of extra brkts (free) that i asked for too. So I got an 04 TF engine with a quoted 55K £400, will be installing over weekend. Answer to you question Jimbo big hole in No2 cyl.
jimbo07g41 Posted September 20, 2012 Posted September 20, 2012 Ouch thats quite terminal for the block, Glad you got sorted.
