olliecast Posted October 2, 2012 Author Posted October 2, 2012 Well, got some diffuser spacers, some new Heatshield coming for the weekend and also a damaged hardtop for a reasonable price. needs some fairly drastic repairs to a bolt hole bit the external is fine and is genuine lotus too! Car demands a lot more respect now. The LSD is interesting to say the least. Definitely need to get on a handling track and get used to it. Are there ant north wield like places to go in notts? Cheers, Ollie
russelld Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 Walshy runs some days at Blyton. http://www.carlimits.com/ He is running a day there on 11th Oct. Javelin also do airfield days at Barkstone Heath near Grantham where they set up handling circuits and a sprint course, there arn't any days showing there at the moment though. http://www.javelintrackdays.co.uk/trackday/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=26&Itemid=14
jimbo07g41 Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 So whats the LSD like? You would be quicker out of tighter slow corners but you will also get quite different handling on faster corners.
DeanB Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 Ollie are you going to Blyton next week with the rest of the MLOC boys? It is a good, pretty safe circuit. Cheap at £99 and will give you a good opportunity to get a handle on that slippy diff.
olliecast Posted October 2, 2012 Author Posted October 2, 2012 Dean, have you got a link please matey?
danwebster Posted October 2, 2012 Posted October 2, 2012 Bear in mind that the quaife diff is a torque basing diff - that is to say that it's not a locking diff and will only bias the torque that is applied through it. On a balanced throttle through fast corners it will work in exactly the same way as an open diff. It's only once you start to lose traction that it will operate differently to an open diff. The quaife and Torsen diffs are extremely benign in nature to the point where they're almost unnoticable unless you like going sideways (like me). The bad experiences that inexperienced folk have had with plate diffs have given a blanket bad name to lsd's in Elise's where actually most people have either never tried one or never driven quick enough to benefit.
russelld Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 A few of us have booked this : http://www.javelintr...cchk=1&Itemid=1 Thread here : http://www.midlandsl...0300-track-day/
jimbo07g41 Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 Well I have to admit that my knowledge with the LSD in an Elise is subjective. I have never driven one. Good write up here. http://www.sandsmuseum.com/cars/elise/information/misc/nick/
olliecast Posted October 3, 2012 Author Posted October 3, 2012 It definitely demands more respect jimbo. Where before you could give it the beans and if it was going to spin up then it'd be a wheel, but now needs a lot more input from me to keep it on the straight and narrow. However, obd changed a lot of things at once, namely increased engine power, gearbox and diff so ideally want to get on track and find the real difference! Welcome to nip over for a spin / drive if you like , cheers ollie
jimbo07g41 Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 I would love a ride/go. Let me know your contact details and we can arrange something. I am about this weekend but not next (Nottingham beer festival and Blyton).
scatty Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 ollie, get yourself booked into blyton, still some places left...great place to try it out in anger...
olliecast Posted October 5, 2012 Author Posted October 5, 2012 Guys, checking the calendar for the track day! Up to my baowls in decorating. On another note got a dyno session booked this afto for a power run amd mixture check!

olliecast Posted October 5, 2012 Author Posted October 5, 2012 afternoon all, got my fuelling and a power run done today Got to say I`m happy with 170hp and 150 ft lb of torque! any observations? Cheers, ollie
DJWilma Posted October 5, 2012 Posted October 5, 2012 nice power curve, i just dont trust dyno dynamics rolling roads as they "calculate" the loses as they go along rather than on run down 170bhp and 150lb ft torque is nice though
